WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball is set to host the Texas Rangers Instructional League Team for a 12-inning exhibition game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

The game is free and open to the public, as fans will get their first chance to see BU’s fall roster in action. Head coach Steve Rodriguez enters his seventh season at the helm and returns 26 members of the 2021 team to the fall squad, in addition to 13 freshmen and six transfers.

Third-year sophomore Jared McKenzie, a 2021 All-American and first-team All-Big 12 selection, leads the Bears’ contingent that includes second-team All-Big 12 pitcher Tyler Thomas and honorable mention picks in Jack Pineda and Tre Richardson.

A 43-man roster is traveling with the Rangers for its Texas Tour, which has included stops at Texas Tech and Dallas Baptist before coming to Waco. The Red Raiders defeated the Rangers 14-11 on Monday in Lubbock, then the Patriots and Rangers tied 6-6 on Tuesday in Dallas. The Texas instructs will continue on to Fort Worth to face TCU for their final game on Friday.

The Rangers IL team is managed by Carlos Cardoza, the older brother of Bears third baseman Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo. This will be the first time the two have faced off against each other on the diamond. Family from Puerto Rico will be in attendance.

No live stream or stats feed will be available for the exhibition. Live in-game updates will be provided via BU’s official Twitter account: @BaylorBaseball.

Baylor will continue its fall slate with Alumni Day festivities on Oct. 29-30, an exhibition against Air Force on Nov. 7 and its annual Green & Gold World Series on Nov. 12-20. The entirety of BU’s spring schedule will be released at a later date.
