Story Lines

• No. 8/8 Baylor takes on Nicholls State at 11 am CT Monday in the annual I'm Going to College game.

• Approximately 3,500 students from 14 local elementary schools are expected to attend the game.

• BU faces Nicholls State for a second time. Flo Thamba and Matthew Mayer played their 4th collegiate games vs. NSU on Nov. 16, 2018 (81-54 BU) and are the only remaining BU players from that game.

• BU was scheduled to host Nicholls on Dec. 8, 2020, but the game was canceled due to COVID protocols.

• Baylor opened the season with an 87-60 win over Incarnate Word on Friday. Five Bears scored in double-figures, led by Matthew Mayer (14 points) and LJ Cryer and Kendall Brown (13 points apiece).

• Baylor is No. 8 in the preseason AP Top-25, snapping a school-record streak of 29-straight weeks top-5 ranked. The Bears are currently on a school-record streak of 30-straight weeks top-10 ranked.

• With its No. 8 ranking, BU has now been ranked in all 25 spots in the AP Top 25 Poll since 2015.

• BU's 38-straight weeks ranked in the AP Top 25 is the nation's 3rd-longest behind Gonzaga and Villanova.

• Baylor has been in the Preseason AP Top 25 in 9 of 12 seasons since its first preseason ranking in 2010-11.

• Baylor has won 25 straight non-conference games (+21.6 average margin) dating back to Nov. 2020.

• BU also returned LJ Cryer, Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, Jordan Turner and Zach Loveday.

• BU added Arizona transfer James Akinjo, who is also on the Naismith Trophy watch list and is a preseason All-America honorable mention (The Athletic). He was first-team All-Pac 12 last season.

• Baylor welcomed the highest-ranked recruiting class in program history (No. 4) . Trio of freshmen includes 5-star Kendall Brown and 4-stars Jeremy Sochan and Langston Love (out for year with injury).

• Baylor also added Fairmont State transfer Dale Bonner and redshirt freshman Dain Dainja.

• Baylor was picked third in the Big 12 preseason coaches' poll behind Kansas and Texas. The Bears were picked first last season (finished first) and second in 2019-20 (finished second).

• Baylor's 28-4 Big 12 conference record over the last two seasons is the best of any Power-5 team.
