WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s tennis continued its successful run at the ITA Fall Nationals in San Diego, Calif., as well as the Big 12 Invitational in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday.

Alicia Herrero Linana and Mel Krywoj advanced to the semifinals in San Diego, while Alina Shcherbinina punched her ticket to the finals in Stillwater.

The senior duo opened the day on the West Coast by upsetting the top seed – and preseason No. 8 duo according to the ITA poll – in Wake Forest’s Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth. After dropping the first set, the Bears bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second set before dominating the third-set tiebreaker, 10-5.

A few hours later, Herrero Linana and Krywoj were back on the court for the semifinals of the ITA Fall Nationals. However, the Baylor tandem dropped their match to North Carolina’s team of Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty, 7-6(7), 6-1.

Meanwhile, Shcherbinina cruised in straight sets over Oklahoma State’s Oona Orpana, 6-0, 6-2, to advance to the finals on Sunday.

She also teamed up with Anita Sahdiieva, and the duo topped Kansas’ Sonia Smagina and Tiffany Lagarde before falling to Texas Tech’s Avelina Sayfetdinova and Kailey Evans, 8-5.

Rounding out the doubles action for Baylor on Saturday was Olivia Malm and Brooke Thompson as they took down Texas Tech’s Bojana Marinkov and Camryn Stepp.

Singles play in Stillwater resulted in a handful of wins for the Bears as Malm and Thompson picked up victories. Malm defeated West Virginia’s Pei Ju Hsieh, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7), and Thompson won over Texas Tech’s Stepp, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).

Baylor closes things out at the Big 12 Individuals on Sunday. Play begins at 10 a.m. with Malm and Thompson facing West Virginia’s Anastasiia Bovolskaia and Ting-Pei Chang. Shcherbinina’s final against Kansas State’s Rosanna Maffei also begins at 10 a.m. Malm and Thompson wrap things up with a singles match each that starts at 1:30 p.m. against Stepp and Ju Hsieh, respectively.
