Baylor MT Finishes Day 1 of Big 6 Invitational
Bears advance three singles to quarterfinals in Waco

WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis had three singles players move into the quarterfinals of the Big 6 Invitational on day one of the tournament at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Jacob Brumm, Ethan Muza and Matias Soto all advanced into the quarterfinals of the singles tournament, and will each play an opponent from Texas Tech. All three will start at 11:30 a.m., as will Justin Braverman in a consolation match with another Red Raider.

Brumm tousled with Welsh Hotard of Oklahoma, fending him off for a 6-4, 6-3 finish to move on. Muza also had quite the fight, taking down Takeyasu Sekiguchi of TTU 7-6(4), 6-1 to advance. The trend continued as the No. 1 seeded Soto prevailed over Francisco Pini of Oklahoma State, 6-3, 7-6(5).

Braverman kept in step with Justin Schlageter of OU, but the Sooner overtook him 7-6(4), 6-1 in the end. The Baylor Bear will face TTU’s Takeyasu Sekiguchi in consolation.

In doubles, Braverman and Muza battled with Takeyasu Sekiguchi and Franco Ribero of Texas Tech to an 8-6 decision, falling to the Red Raiders. They then were to face the Texas Duo of Nevin Arimilli and Evin McDonald, but recorded a walkover.

The No. 1 seeded pair Matias Soto and Jacob Brumm had a first-round bye, and then faced Oklahoma’s Justin Schlageter and Mark Mandlik. They too had a fight to the finish, with the Sooners prevailing, 8-5. Soto and Brumm are slated against Baptiste Anselmo and Nathan Han of OU next, set to start at 10 a.m.
