IRVING, Texas – Baylor women’s golf had a school-record six players named to the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, as announced Wednesday by the Big 12 Conference office.

This marks the sixth consecutive season Baylor has had at least five Academic All-Big 12 honorees. Diane Baillieux, Elodie Chapelet, Hannah Karg, Gurleen Kaur, Jordan Shackelford and Anika Veintemilla were all selected to the First Team, breaking the school record set previously with five First Team honorees in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Baillieux, Shackelford and Kaur all earned their fourth-consecutive Academic All-Big 12 honors. Baillieux and Shackelford were both on the Rookie Team as freshmen in 2018 and both have now been named to the First Team in each of the last three seasons. Kaur was on the 2018 Rookie Team and 2019 Second Team before going back-to-back as a First Team honoree in 2020 and 2021. Veintemilla earned her second honor after being named to the Rookie Team a season ago, while Karg and Chapelet earned their career-first Academic All-Big 12 honors.

Players are eligible for Academic All-Big 12 First and Second Teams after they’ve completed a full year in residence, and all six Bears who have been on the team for more than a year earned Academic All-Big 12 honors. The Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team is released in the summer, and the three true freshmen on the BU roster will be eligible for the Rookie Team.

BU has now had 93 Academic All-Big 12 Team honorees in the league’s 24-year history, 60 of which were First-Team selections. Baylor has had 14 Academic All-Big 12 Second-Team honorees, three honorable mention selections and 16 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team members.

BU has placed at least three golfers on Academic All-Big 12 Teams in eight consecutive seasons, and the Bears have earned 56 total honors during the 10-year tenure of head coach Jay Goble after combining for 37 honors in the league’s first 15 years.

To qualify for Academic All-Big 12 Teams, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

Baylor begins its NCAA Tournament run at the Baton Rouge Regional, where the Bears earned the No. 3 seed. The top six teams at the Regional, which runs May 10-12, advance to the NCAA Championship. Follow @BaylorWGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for updates throughout the season.
