AUSTIN, Texas – KC Lightfoot won the men’s pole vault, and Tuesdi Tidwell finished as the runner-up in the women’s pole vault to highlight day two for Baylor Track & Field at the Texas Relays Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Lightfoot continued his perfect 2021 slate and became the 14th member of the outdoor 19-foot club as he cleared a bar of 19-0.25 (5.80m) to take home the title. The junior from Lee’s Summit, Mo., tied the second-best jump in Baylor outdoor history (Bill Payne, 1991).

Tidwell achieved her outdoor personal best and tied the third-best jump in Baylor outdoor history (Annie Rhodes, 2016) with a clearance of 14-5.5 (4.41m), giving her a second-place finish.

“KC and Tuesdi both had great days,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “For KC, any time you can win in that kind of field is very impressive. That was an outstanding, like the NCAA, field in the vault. It was a great day for KC. A great win in a great competition. Tuesdi battled hard. That was a great competition for her. Just a solid day for both of them.”

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team recorded the second-best time of the first round, clocking in at 39.94 to win the third heat. The team of Ian Braxton, Isaiah Cunningham, Ryan Croson and Kamden Jackson will compete in the finals Saturday at 2:08 p.m. CT.

“That was the first time for those guys to take the stick and get it around the track,” Harbour said. “That’s always your first goal, to get it around the track that first time out. I thought that went really well, to break 40 the first time out of the blocks. That’s really solid. Great job by those guys.”

Jackson followed his victorious anchor leg in the 4x1 with a personal best in the 100 meters, clocking in at 10.26. The sophomore from Zachary, La., had the ninth-best time of the first round but missed the finals due to other heat winners receiving automatic bids to the final.

“I thought Kam’s 100 was a big day for him,” Harbour said. “That was a big PB for him.”

Caira Pettway recorded another personal best, long jumping 19-9 (6.02m) to finish in seventh place.

“Caira had another really solid long jump,” Harbour said. “That was a good day for her.”

In the women’s heptathlon, Alyssa Miller became the sixth-best performer in Baylor history with a final score of 4,968. The junior from McKinney, Texas, placed 11th overall.

Saturday will be the third and final day of the Texas Relays, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the women’s high jump “A” section.

The action will be televised live on the Longhorn Network here<https://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=85ec3fa1-f8f6-4ceb-81bf-c627e5030aab>, and live results can be found here<https://pttiming.com/event.php?mid=37&pt=schedule>.
