WACO, Texas – Baylor softball’s Aliyah Binford was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.



The second-year freshman took over in the circle with the bases loaded and one out in Sunday’s game at No. 9 Arizona State and held one of the most powerful offenses in the country scoreless on their home field. Binford kept the Sun Devils off balance with her offspeed and induced a slew of groundouts to pick up the win. The right-hander gave up four hits through 5.2 innings of work.



It marked her second win of the week as she also threw four innings in a 10-run win at GCU the day before. Against the Lopes, Binford also hit in the clean-up spot and nearly hit for the cycle as she only lacked a triple in a 3-for-5 showing at the plate with five RBI.



This is the first weekly honor from the conference for Binford and is the 42nd given to a Baylor pitcher in program history after Gia Rodoni earned the nod a year ago. A Lady Bear pitcher has taken home at least one weekly honor from the conference in each of the last 10 years.
