Baylor Track & Field: Tidwell Earns All-America in Pole Vault
Ackera Nugent and Aaliyah Miller punched tickets to finals to clinch All-America status.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Tuesdi Tidwell earned All-America status in the pole vault, while Ackera Nugent and Aaliyah Miller punched tickets to finals for Baylor track & field Friday at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Tidwell is an All-American for the second time, placing sixth with a jump of 14-3.5 (4.36m) at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The senior from Early, Texas, was also named an All-American in the shortened 2020 season after advancing to Nationals.

“Tuesdi did an outstanding job,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “From where she’s come from, I’m really proud of her. She battled and fought all year. It was another one of those cases in the pole vault where just that much separates you. She fought really hard.”

Nugent advanced to the final of the women’s 60-meter hurdles with the fourth-best time of the semifinals, clocking in at 8.06. The freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, clinched All-America status for the first time heading into Saturday’s final.

“Ackera ran a great race,” Harbour said. “Get to the finals – that’s all you do. You want to get to the finals.”

Miller recorded the seventh-best time of the semifinals in the women’s 800 meters, finishing in 2:04.61 to move on to Saturday’s final. The senior from McKinney, Texas, will be an All-American for the third time (first time indoors).

“Aaliyah ran a little bit more of a tactical race than we were hoping for, but she got in,” Harbour said. “We’ll get after it tomorrow.”

In the semifinals of the women’s 200 meters, Arria Minor placed 15th to garner second team All-America status. The sophomore from Denver, Colo, recorded a time of 23.70.

“Arria has had a great year,” Harbour said. “Second team All-American and she’s still going to come back and run a big leg on the 4x4 tomorrow. She’ll regroup. She’s disappointed in not making it, but she will be back, many times.”

Saturday is the third and final day of the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Baylor action will get started at 12:30 p.m. CT with KC Lightfoot in the men’s pole vault. The event will be streamed live on ESPN3, and live results from the meet can be found here<https://dt8v5llb2dwhs.cloudfront.net/Indoor/2021/index.htm>.
