No. 7 EQ Drops 9-6 Meet Against No. 5 Fresno State
Bears tie in three events, but come up just short against the Bulldogs

THE RUNDOWN

FORT WORTH, Texas – Less than 24 hours after competing against the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowgirls, No. 7 Baylor equestrian took on No. 5 Fresno State Sunday, but fell 9-6 in a neutral-site contest hosted by TCU.



The Bears (1-3, 1-2) started with a 3-0 deficit in Fences against the Bulldogs (4-1, 2-0), but bounced back to tie in Reining with a score of 2-2. Madaline Callaway earned her second MOP honor of the season in Reining with a score of 72 on Alfie, while Andie Pratt also collected a point for BU with a 70.5 on Bella.

Baylor trailed 5-2 heading into the afternoon events, but once again tied FS 2-2 in the Flat. Rachael Davis earned an MOP with a season high score of 86 on Lina, and Gia Gulino tacked on a score of 78 to bring the Bears within striking distance.



In Horsemanship, Baylor earned the first two points with Clara Johnson recording a 75 and Katie Davis earning a 75.5. However, the Bulldogs would collect the final two points and ultimately clinch the meet



NOTABLES

• BU is now 1-3 against ranked opponents this season.

• Baylor picked up 2-2 ties against Fresno State in three events – Reining, Flat and Horsemanship.

• Madaline Callaway garnered her second MOP honor of the year in Reining with a 72 on Alfie.

• Rachael Davis earned her second MOP honor this season with a season high score of 86 in Flat

• Maddie Vorhies scored a season high total of 80 in Fences, though she was edged by the highest score of the day – an 85 by Fresno State’s Ana Bertozzi.

• Clara Johnson scored a personal best this season with a score of 75 in the Horsemanship event.



STAT OF THE MEET

2 – Baylor tied three events 2-2, and picked up two MOP performers (Callaway and Davis) who each earned their second MOP’s of the season.

“It was definitely a rough weekend for our team, but I was happy to us come out and fix some of Saturday’s errors, while putting out stronger performances as a whole team. Our competition doesn’t get any easier this next week, so we’re really looking for the team to lay down solid performances in all four events.”



WHAT'S NEXT

No. 7 Baylor will return to Fort Worth for a matchup with No. 2 TCU on Thursday, March 11. The Bears are currently 23-7 all-time against TCU, having won five of the last six meetings. First ride is set for 1 p.m. CT.
