THE RUNDOWN
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Baylor women’s golf is tied for ninth place after carding 6-over-par 294 in Monday’s first round of the Gamecock Intercollegiate at Columbia Country Club. The Bears are 12 shots back of the lead in an 18-team field that includes 11 top-25 ranked teams.



No. 1 Baylor (+6) is tied with No. 7 Ole Miss (+6) and in front of No. 41 Kentucky (+10), No. 16 Arkansas (+11), No. 20 Alabama (+11), Texas A&M (+12), No. 13 Georgia (+13), No. 15 Florida (+14), No. 34 Tennessee (+15) and No. 44 Furman (+21). BU trails No. 22 Duke (-6), No. 4 LSU (-2), Mississippi State (-1), No. 2 South Carolina (-1), No. 11 Auburn (-1), North Carolina (+2), No. 5 Wake Forest (+2) and No. 32 Vanderbilt (+3).



Baylor was led by Gurleen Kaur, who played a nearly-flawless round with four birdies and 13 pars on her way to a 2-under 70. She is tied for seventh place in the 96-player field, just one shot back of six players tied for the lead at 3-under.



Freshman Britta Snyder shot 1-over 73 to tie for 28th place, while fellow freshman Rosie Belsham tied for 47th place at 3-over 75. Hannah Karg posted BU’s final counting score at 4-over 76 to tie for 61st place, while Elodie Chapelet is tied for 76th place at 5-over 77.



Baylor golfers are paired with players from Kentucky and Arkansas for Tuesday’s second round, which is an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start. Snyder and Kaur will tee off from No. 10, Karg and Belsham will start from No. 11 and Chapelet will begin on No. 12.

STAT OF THE DAY
66 – Baylor led the 18-team field with 66 pars in the first round. Karg made a team-leading 14 pars, while Kaur, Snyder and Chapelet and Belsham made 13 pars apiece. Snyder made one of only four eagles in the tournament’s first round when she needed two shots on the 353-yard, par-4 fourth hole.


WHAT'S NEXT

Due to inclement weather, teams will now tee off for the second round in a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT Tuesday, then will begin the final round with another shotgun start around 1:30 p.m. Teams will continue play until 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, then will return to the course to hopefully finish the final round on Wednesday.
