WACO, Texas – Aaliyah Miller (women’s track & field) and Jared Butler (men’s basketball) have been named Baylor’s 2020-21 Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates, the conference office announced Monday.

Fans will be able to vote for their male and female choices from 2 p.m. CT on July 2 until 8 a.m. CT July 5 on Big12Sports.com. Fan voting will be considered in the final tally for selecting this prestigious award.

Miller wrapped up a historic season in which she won the indoor national championship in the 800 meters and became an All-American for the fourth time with a school-record run of 2:00.69. The senior from McKinney, Texas, qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship in the 800 meters and 4x400-meter relay.

Miller stood on the Big 12 podium five times (twice outdoors; three times indoors). She won the Big 12 title in the 800 meters and was runner-up in the 4x400-meter relay outdoors, and captured Big 12 indoor titles in the 800 meters and 4x400-meter relay.

Butler guided the Bears to their first-ever men’s basketball National Championship, and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. The junior from Reserve, La., became the first consensus First-Team All-American in program history.

Butler was tabbed the 2021 Associated Press Big 12 Player of the Year and USBWA District VII Player of the Year after leading the Big 12 with a .416 three-point field goal percentage and 2.0 steals per contest. He was selected as the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year as he graduated in three years with a BBA degree in management.
