WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball’s Jared McKenzie was named to the NCBWA Freshman All-American Second Team, the organization announced on Monday. McKenzie becomes just the third Bear and first outfielder in program history to earn the honor from the NCBWA.
Listed as a second-year freshman in 2021 due to the shortened 2020 season, this is McKenzie’s second time being tabbed as a freshman all-american after he earned the distinction from Collegiate Baseball in 2020.
In 2021, McKenzie led the team and was second in the Big 12 in batting average (.383), hits (82) and runs scored (62). The Round Rock native also ripped 10 home runs with 44 RBI, 14 doubles and four triples, while starting all 51 games in center field. McKenzie led Baylor with 134 total bases, a .626 slugging percentage and a .453 on-base percentage.
In May, McKenzie was named to the 2021 All-Big 12 First Team for his performance.
