THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – No. 2 Baylor men’s tennis (13-2) took care of Trinity (3-5) in two matches on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center, winning all 14 points in a pair of 7-0 victories.

It was BU’s first match outside at the Hurd since May 10, 2019, when the Bears defeated UCLA in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Baylor has now won both ends of each of its last 40 doubleheaders, including four this spring season.

Nine different Bears saw action, with Ryan Dickerson and Christopher Frantzen leading the way with four total victories each on the day.

MATCH ONE: Baylor 7, Trinity 0
To kick off the day’s action, Baylor took the opening doubles point with a pair of 6-0 wins by the Frantzen brothers on court three and Spencer Furman/Nick Stachowiak on court two. Dickerson and partner Matias Soto rounded it out with a 6-3 in the top spot.

In singles, Furman was the first off the court with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court two, followed by Sebastian Nothhaft on court six with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. No. 103-ranked Charlie Broom collected a 6-2, 6-2 win in his lone action of the day on court three to clinch the match.

No. 56 Soto garnered a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 singles position, then Dickerson finished his 6-0, 6-0 match on court four. Christopher Frantzen completed the first sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the fifth spot.

MATCH TWO: Baylor 7, Trinity 0
The nightcap was much of the same, as BU cruised in doubles behind Dickerson/Furman’s 6-0 win on court two. Chris Frantzen/Nothhaft took a 6-2 win on court three, then No. 10-ranked Coni Frantzen/Sven Lah picked up a 6-4 victory on the top court.

The Bears flexed their muscles in singles play, holding their opponents scoreless in six sets across the top four courts. No. 74 Stachowiak was the first one done, sweeping 6-0, 6-0 on court two. Dickerson followed that up with another 6-0, 6-0 singles win, this time on court three.

Nothhaft tallied his second victory on court five, 6-2, 6-1, No. 43 Lah kept it rolling with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court one, and No. 66 Constantin Frantzen breezed through a 6-3, 6-0 match on court four.

Christopher Frantzen once again put the exclamation point on the match, holding off his opponent on court six to ensure another straight-set victory 6-4, 7-5 for the Bears.

TOP QUOTES
Interim head coach Michael Woodson
On returning to Hurd for the first time since 2019…
“It was fantastic to be back playing at Hurd. It was a beautiful day for tennis and I was excited to be playing outdoors. Trinity made it tough on us and tested our ability to focus and be professional from start to finish. I thought overall our guys did that and I was really pleased with what we got out of the day.”

On getting reps ahead of a long remainder of the season…
“It’s really important to get the schedule right – to give our guys enough opportunities to play and develop without wearing them out. I think it was nice to come back here, play multiple matches without having to travel, play at home and sleep in our own beds, and build up a little bit before we head to North Carolina.”

Sixth-year senior Ryan Dickerson
On collecting four wins today…
“It felt good to get outside, I hadn’t played a dual match outside in my Baylor career yet. I think a lot of us played really well. We all came in with really good focus. I felt like that intensity and stinginess is why our team can be really good. We really locked it down from the start of the day until the end.”

WHAT’S NEXT
The Bears (13-2) will host UT Arlington (1-1) on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Hurd Tennis Center with first serve scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
