WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s golf returns to action with the Border Olympics, which begin Monday at Laredo (Texas) Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played on a par-72, 7,375-yard course.

No. 13-ranked Baylor is part of a 19-team field at the Border Olympics. The Bears will take on No. 9 Texas, No. 26 Texas A&M, No. 43 Kent State, No. 54 Little Rock, No. 67 Louisiana-Monroe, No. 92 Louisiana-Lafayette, No. 98 Abilene Christian, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Houston, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Lamar, Michigan, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston State and UTSA.

BU is returning to the Border Olympics for the first time since 2016. The Bears competed in the tournament for 27 consecutive years from 1990 to 2016, winning the team title nine times – 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2015 and 2016. Four Bears have won individual titles at the Border Olympics – Jamie McLeary (2002), Jeremy Alcorn (2005), Colton Williams (2008) and Joakim Mikkelsen (2010).

The Baylor lineup features fifth-year senior Colin Kober, fourth-year junior Ryan Grider, second-year freshman Johnny Keefer, second-year freshman Tyler Isenhart and third-year sophomore Brandon Hoff. Isenhart is making his career-first appearance as part of a five-player Baylor lineup, while Hoff is making his second such appearance. Both were part of the Bears’ six-man lineup when BU won the Rice Intercollegiate in January.

Grider leads the Bears with a 72.13 stroke average across eight rounds, including a team-best three rounds at par or better. Keefer is one total stroke back with a 72.25 average, followed by Kober in third at 72.75.

Baylor has won two of four tournaments during the 2020-21 season. The Bears claimed the 2020 Big 12 Match Play Championship in October, winning the title for a second time in the tournament’s three-year history. BU opened the spring season with a victory at the Rice Intercollegiate in January. The Bears took fourth place at both the Colonial Collegiate Invitational and the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational.
