Baylor Women’s Golf Wins Fourth Straight Title at Trinity Forest

THE RUNDOWN
DALLAS – Baylor women’s golf remained perfect for the 2020-21 season by sweeping the team and individual titles at the Trinity Forest Invitational. BU shot 1-under-par 287 in Tuesday’s final round to claim a 13-shot victory, while redshirt freshman Hannah Karg shot a final-round 4-under 68 to win medalist honors by one stroke at 5-under 211.

The title was the Bears’ fourth in as many tournaments during the 2020-21 season, following the Schooner Fall Classic, the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and the Cowgirl Classic. BU players have also won individual titles at all four events, with Gurleen Kaur winning at the Schooner and Longhorn, Elodie Chapelet winning at the Cowgirl and Karg winning at Trinity Forest.

Baylor (-1) claimed head-to-head victories over Oklahoma State (+15), Texas (+27), Kansas State (+39), Texas Tech (+40), SMU (+42), Tulsa (+43), UTSA (+44), Washington (+52), Nebraska (+52), BYU (+54), Chattanooga (+64), Memphis (+68) and Missouri State (+65).

Four Bears claimed top-10 individual finishes, led by Karg’s first-place result at 5-under 211. Freshman Rosie Belsham shot a final-round 1-over 73 to tie for third place at 3-over 219, while Chapelet joined her in third place after shooting 2-over 74 in the final round. Freshman Britta Snyder carded even-par 72 in the final round to tie for ninth place at 5-over 221, and Gurleen Kaur tied for 23rd place at 11-over 227.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor finished atop the 14-team field in par-3 scoring at 4-over 3.07, par-4 scoring at 31-over 4.21 and par-5 scoring at 18-under 4.70.
  *   BU also made a tournament-best 52 birdies, which were 10 more than any other team, and the Bears led the field with three eagles.
  *   Karg tied for the tournament lead in par-4 scoring at even-par 4.00 and finished second in par-3 scoring at 3-under 2.75.
  *   Belsham led the 74-player field in par-5 scoring at 7-under 4.42.
  *   Chapelet tied for sixth in par-4 scoring at 5-over 4.17 and tied for 10th in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.67.
  *   Karg led the field with 16 birdies, while Snyder tied for third with 11 birdies.
  *   Belsham was the only player in the field to make two eagles.
  *   Kaur and Chapelet tied for the team lead with 32 pars.

STAT OF THE DAY
16 – Hannah Karg made 16 birdies in the tournament, four more than anyone else in the 77-player field. She made eight birdies as part of a 4-under 68 in the final round, turning a five-shot deficit entering the final round into a one-shot victory.
