WACO, Texas – No. 5 seed Baylor volleyball starts its run in its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament on Thursday when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center for the First Round.

The Bears (20-5) play Southland Conference champion TAMU-CC (19-9), while Northern Colorado (24-6) faces Washington State (19-11) at 4:30 p.m. earlier in the day. The two winners advance to a second-round match at 7 p.m. Friday with a trip to the region semifinals of the line.

Already recording its sixth-straight 20-win season, BU is certainly battle-tested. Out of the Bears’ 25 matches this season, 19 of them were against teams that are now in the tournament, going 14-5 overall. Seven of the Big 12’s nine squads have made the tournament.

Baylor is 8-5 in the NCAA Tournament under Ryan McGuyre and 11-9 overall going into the First and Second Rounds.

The Bears have faced all three teams coming to Waco in previous seasons and are 6-0 all-time against the Islanders. TAMU-CC has won only three sets in those six matches.

This is the third time BU has hosted at least one portion of the NCAA Tournament, with the other two coming in 2017 for the first and second rounds and 2019 for both the first and second rounds and the regionals.

The other four teams in Baylor’s quadrant of the bracket are Stanford, Iowa State, South Dakota and No. 12 Minnesota. The winner of both the Waco and Minneapolis First and Second Rounds will move on to the Regionals portion of the Tournament.

Fans are encouraged to visit Baylor’s Tournament Central<https://baylorbears.com/sports/2021/11/28/ncaa-volleyball-first-and-second-rounds.aspx> for all relevant information regarding the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. A full recap and final stats will be posted to BaylorBears.com as well as the Tournament Central page after the conclusion of Baylor’s matches. Final stats for the WSU-UNC matchup will be posted there as well.
