THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Glenn Moore picked up his 800th win at Baylor as the Lady Bears topped Kansas, 7-1, Friday night at Getterman Stadium. Moore, with 939 career wins over his 25-year career, becomes the 24th active coach in the country to register 800 wins at a single institution. He is the winningest coach in Baylor history.

Josie Bower got things going in the second inning with her leadoff double to left field. Two batters later, Hannah Thompson brought her home with an RBI single to right field.

Baylor opened things up an inning later as back-to-back singles by Emily Hott and Goose McGlaun put two runners on with no outs for Aliyah Binford who launched a three-run home run over the left field wall. It marked her fourth homer of the season and first at home since Feb. 25, 2020.

That wasn’t enough for Binford as the second-year sophomore went back-to-back with a no-doubter over the center field wall in the fourth inning to put three more runs on the board for Baylor.

The Lady Bears have now won three series openers against Big 12 foes – Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas.

HIGHLIGHTS

  * The Baylor defense retired the first seven Jayhawk batters in order.
  * Josie Bower hit her seventh double of the season, and 15th of her career, in the second inning.
  * With her single in the third inning, Emily Hott has now reached base in 27-straight games. That streak is good for sixth in program history and puts her one away from tying Ari Hawkins (2017).
  * Bower and Goose McGlaun each finished with two hits on the day.
  * Aliyah Binford launched her fourth and fifth home runs of the season, and ninth and 10th of her career, in the third inning. Binford went yard at Getterman for the first time since her solo shot against Louisiana Tech on Feb. 25, 2020.
  * Binford recorded the first multi-home run game of her career and the first for Baylor since Hannah Thompson did so at Houston on March 10, 2020. Binford is the 55th Lady Bear to do so in program history.
  * Gia Rodoni picked up career win No. 65. That ties Joni Miller (2000-03) for sixth in program history.

STAT OF THE DAY
6 – Number of RBI by Aliyah Binford. She ties the Getterman Stadium record for RBI in a game alongside BU’s Kelly Osburn (vs. Tennessee 2/27/04) and Illinois’ Megan Coonce (vs. Baylor 2/11/26). Binford was two RBI from tying Baylor’s all-time record of eight RBI held by Tessa Lynam (at Sam Houston 4/5/06)

TOP QUOTES
Baylor head coach Glenn Moore on the game…
“It really was (solid), starting with the circle and then defense and swinging the bats. Of course, the tone was set with Aliyah (Binford). I do like the approach we have, the way we’re getting ready to play. I felt like if we did the same thing tonight, that we would have a good opportunity to come away with the victory. I certainly have a lot of respect for Kansas. They swing the bats really well. I just thought we were ready to play tonight.”
