WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian senior Rachael Davis has been named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Flat Rider of the Year, as announced Tuesday by the organization.

Davis, a three-time NCEA All-American in the Flat, is the first rider in BU program history to receive the national award.

To cap off a highly decorated career, Davis recorded an unblemished 11-0 season with three regular-season Most Outstanding Performer honors. The Woodinville, Wash., native followed up a perfect 7-0 regular season, in which she averaged an 81.86 in the Flat, with an outstanding 4-0 postseason.

“We are incredibly proud of Rachael for being named the NCEA Rider of the Year in Flat,” said fourth-year head coach Casie Maxwell. “Her record proves her consistency and commitment to keeping herself as one of the top Flat riders in the country. We’re very happy that she’s able to graduate having achieving almost every honor possible in our sport.”

After a 2-0 weekend at the 2021 Big 12 Championship, Davis was named the Most Outstanding Performer for Flat with two-judge scores of 163 and 130. She followed that up with three-judge scores of 240 and 231 at the NCEA Championship en route to being placed on the All-Championship Flat Team.

Earlier this year, Davis had been named the NCEA and Big 12 Flat Rider of the Month for March. She also earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Flat Team for the fourth time in her career, becoming the first Bear in program history to collect the accolade in all four years of her career. Davis was also named the Big 12 Flat Rider of the Year for the third time in her career and second-consecutive season.

Baylor finished the 2020-21 campaign at 3-8 overall after upsetting No. 1 seed Auburn to advance the NCEA National Semifinals for the first time in Maxwell’s four-year tenure.
