THE RUNDOWN
AMES, Iowa – Gia Rodoni pitched a gem as Baylor softball clinched the series win with a 4-1 victory over Iowa State Sunday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex.

The sixth-year senior threw her 39th career complete game and allowed just one run off seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Rodoni struck out four of the first six batters she faced as the Baylor defense retired the first 10 Cyclone batters in order.

The Lady Bears got on the board in the fourth inning as Emily Hott led things off with a walk. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Goose McGlaun and then turned on the jets to take third. An Iowa State throwing error allowed Hott to score.

Baylor built off that momentum the following inning with a three-spot in the frame. Josie Bower and Zadie LaValley walked to start the inning off before a sacrifice bunt by Sydney Collazos moved the runners into scoring position. Bower came around to score when Hannah Smith delivered what appeared to be a sac fly to center field, but the ISU player dropped the ball, allowing the run to score and Smith to reach base safely. Two batters later, Hott singled to left field to plate two more runs for the Lady Bears.

All the while, Rodoni and the Baylor defenses continued to take care of business. Taylor Ellis had a game-high four assists at third base.

TOP QUOTES
Baylor head coach Glenn Moore on the game…
“The difference between yesterday and today was the small things. The few mistakes we made yesterday resulted in runs for them. Today we capitalized on their mistakes. Gia (Rodoni) was very good again. She was in great command of all of her pitches from start to finish.”

UP NEXT
Baylor returns home to host No. 1 Oklahoma in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 27. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. (CT) and both games will be nationally broadcasted on ESPNU.
