Baylor Track & Field: Miller Earns Big 12 Athlete of the Week Honors
Senior half-miler set Baylor outdoor record (2:00.87) at Michael Johnson Invitational


WACO, Texas – After setting the school record in the 800 meters, senior Aaliyah Miller has been named Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

“It’s a very nice honor for an outstanding young lady,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “She continues to compete at a high level week to week.”

Miller set the Baylor outdoor record (2:00.87) in a historic 800 meters this past weekend at the Michael Johnson Invitational. In what will go down as one of the greatest 800-meter races in collegiate history, Miller finished as the runner-up behind only Athing Mu of Texas A&M, who set the collegiate record with a time of 1:57.73. Miller now holds both the indoor and outdoor school records in the 800 meters. The McKinney, Texas, native holds the Big 12 lead in the 800 by over five seconds, is third in the NCAA and 10th in the world.

“It’s always a blessing to be selected as Big 12 Athlete of the Week,” Miller said. “That race was really special having the chance to race in front of a home crowd, getting an outdoor PB and school record all on senior night. It really doesn’t get much better than that. I’m just happy and grateful that we’re racing happy and healthy.”

This is Miller’s second-career Big 12 outdoor athlete of the week award, and her fifth overall between indoor and outdoor. This indoor season, which culminated in a national championship, Miller was a two-time conference athlete of the week.

Baylor now has 26 Big 12 outdoor awards to go along with 24 indoor awards, making this the 50th weekly league honor in program history.

Miller and the Bears now head to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Alumni Gold this Friday and Saturday in Baton Rouge, La.
