WACO, Texas – For his work on and off the field, fifth-year senior Andy Thomas was one of 30 student-athletes selected as candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Thursday.

In 2021, Thomas has started all 29 games at catcher while posting a .321 batting average, five home runs, six doubles, 26 runs scored and a team-high 31 RBI. In addition, he has tallied 11 multi-hit games while helping the Bears to their 19-10 record.

Thomas is not only a stellar athlete on the field, but he is also a great student in the classroom. The fifth-year senior graduated with a degree in marketing with a 3.44 GPA in May of 2020. Last year he was awarded the 2020 Dr. Prentice Gautt Big 12 Postgraduate Scholarship. In addition, he has made the First Team Big 12 All-Academic Team all four years at BU. He is currently working on his MBA and has a perfect 4.0 GPA.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in May, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches, and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C’s of community, classroom, character, and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 College World Series in June.
