THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis got off to a strong start after the first day of the ITA Texas Regionals, going 7-1 in doubles action Friday at Waco Regional Tennis Center.

Three Bears pairings went 2-0 and booked spots in their bracket’s finals as top-seeded Charlie Broom/Sven Lah will take on teammates and No. 2-seed Matias Soto/Nick Stachowiak in the Red Bracket championship, while Finn Bass/Spencer Furman earned a place in the White Bracket final.

Broom/Lah secured victories over duos from UTA and Louisiana, Soto/Stachowiak made quick work of teams from BYU and Texas, and Bass/Furman took care of pairings from Lamar and UTA.

Rahul Dhokia/Sebastian Nothhaft rebounded from a first round loss to pull even on the day with an 8-7(2) victory over Texas Tech’s Johnson/Vittar in a Blue Bracket consolation match.

Due to inclement weather, only two rounds of doubles were played on the tournament’s opening day. As a result, two singles rounds are scheduled for Saturday with the doubles finals to come on Sunday.

All eight Bears will compete in singles action tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. CT.

Baylor is right back at it at 10 a.m. CT for the start of singles competition as part of the ITA Texas Regionals.
