Baylor Men’s Golf Places Fourth at Maridoe Collegiate
Bears wrap up fall season with third consecutive top-4 finish

THE RUNDOWN
CARROLLTON, Texas – Baylor men’s golf shot 8-over-par 296 in Tuesday’s final round at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational, and the Bears finished in fourth place with a three-round total of 25-over 889.



Baylor (+25) finished behind Oklahoma State (+16), Pepperdine (+19) and Oklahoma (+24). BU placed in front of Texas (+26), North Texas (+34), Kansas (+37), Texas Tech (+39), TCU (+59), East Tennessee State (+62), Iowa State (+66) and Coastal Carolina (+75).



The Bears’ best round of the day came from Travis McInroe, who fired a 1-under 71 to climb 13 spots on the individual leaderboard and finish tied for 26th place at 9-over 225. Colin Kober and Johnny Keefer joined McInroe in a tie for 26th place at 9-over 225 after final round of 2-over 74 and 3-over 75, respectively. Ryan Grider led the Bears and recorded his second career top-10 finish with a tie for ninth place at 4-over 220 with a final round of 4-over 76.



Cooper Dossey shot 5-over 77 in the final round and finished tied for 32nd place at 10-over 226. Brandon Hoff, who was competing as an individual, recorded his best round of the tournament with a team-high 14 pars on his way to a 3-over 75, and he finished tied for 48th place at 17-over 233.



Baylor was sitting at even-par as a team through 16 holes, but the Bears gave eight strokes back over the final two holes. Those eight strokes moved the Bears from second place and five strokes back of the lead to fourth place and nine strokes back.



The tournament wrapped up a three-event fall season, with the Bears placing fourth in both stroke play events and claiming their second Big 12 Match Play Championship in the tournament’s three-year history. Baylor opens the spring season with a 36-hole, single-day event at the Rice Intercollegiate, which is January 25 at Westwood Golf Club in Houston.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor finished second in the field in par-5 scoring at 6-under 4.90, tied for third in par-4 scoring at 37-over 4.25 and tied for eighth in par-3 scoring at 10-over 3.17.
  *   BU tied for second in the field with 42 birdies, one back of the tournament lead.
  *   Baylor’s 160 pars tied for third-most in the tournament.
  *   Dossey tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.67, while Kober tied for eighth at 2-under 4.83.
  *   Grider tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring at 2-under 2.83, while McInroe tied for seventh at 1-under 2.92.
  *   Keefer’s 10 birdies tied for sixth-most in the tournament, while Dossey and Grider made nine birdies apiece, McInroe had eight birdies, Kober posted six birdies and Hoff finished with five birdies.
  *   Kober led the team with 34 pars across 54 holes.

STAT OF THE DAY
4-under – Baylor played the front-9 of Tuesday’s final round at 4-under, with Keefer going 2-under with four birdies, McInroe and Dossey both 1-under and Grider at even-par. The Bears were only one shot back of the lead at the turn.

Baylor opens the spring season on Jan. 25 at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston, beginning a stretch with four of five tournaments in the state of Texas.
