WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s golf returns to action this weekend at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, which runs Saturday and Sunday at University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.

The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the 6,295-yard, par-72 course at UT Golf Club, with two rounds on Saturday followed by a final round Sunday morning.

Baylor is part of a 10-team field which includes every Big 12 program except Kansas State, as well as North Texas and Texas State. BU is coming off a 31-stroke victory in the season-opening Schooner Fall Classic, which included all nine Big 12 programs along with North Texas and Arkansas State.

BU is making its 15th appearance at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, and the Bears’ best previous finish was third place in 1999, 2007 and 2018. Baylor tied for seventh in the 15-team event last season, but matched a program-best finish with third in a 13-team field two years ago.

The five-player BU lineup remains the same, with the order slightly adjusted. The Bears’ lineup features two All-Americans and a trio of freshmen. Redshirt junior Gurleen Kaur leads the way, followed by true freshman Britta Snyder in the No. 2 spot. Sixth-year senior Elodie Chapelet is in the No. 3 spot, followed by redshirt freshman Hannah Karg at No. 4 and true freshman Rosie Belsham at No. 5.

BU also has three players making their 2020-21 season debuts competing as individuals in the tournament. Redshirt junior Diane Baillieux, true freshman Nina Lang and redshirt freshman Anika Veintemilla will compete in the individual standings.

Karg became the first BU player since 2016 to win Big 12 Golfer of the Month when she earned the award for September earlier this week. Kaur shared medalist honors at the Schooner Fall Classic, claiming her second career individual tournament title.

Four Bears recorded top-10 individual finishes and all five placed top-25 at the Schooner Fall Classic. With her win, Kaur moved up 23 spots to No. 78 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Karg climbed 145 spots from No. 1334 to No. 1189 with her 10th-place finish, and Snyder climbed 120 spots from No. 653 to No. 533 with a third-place finish. Additionally, Chapelet moved up eight spots to No. 115 with a fifth-place finish, and Belsham is now at No. 419 after a tie for 21st place.

The first Golfstat rankings of the 2020-21 season will be released on Oct. 17. BU finished the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season ranked No. 20 nationally.
