THE RUNDOWN
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Baylor women’s golf is tied for third place after shooting 10-over-par 294 in Friday’s first round of the ninth-annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The Bears are seven shots back of the lead in a 17-team field comprised entirely of top-40 ranked teams.



No. 20 Baylor (+10) trails only No. 7 Wake Forest (+3) and No. 14 UCLA (+8). The Bears are tied with No. 1 Texas (+10) and No. 19 Auburn (+10) and lead No. 36 North Carolina (+12), No. 12 LSU (+15), No. 6 Duke (+15), No. 18 Arkansas (+16), No. 22 Vanderbilt (+18), No. 4 South Carolina (+19), No. 33 Furman (+19), No. 21 Florida State (+20), No. 34 Virginia (+24), No. 13 Alabama (+27), No. 40 Northwestern (+27) and No. 28 Georgia (+27).



Four Bears are among the top-25 individuals after the first round. Elodie Chapelet and Gurleen Kaur are tied for 15th place after shooting matching rounds of 2-over 73, while Diane Baillieux and Erica Chiang are tied for 21st place at 3-over 74. Hannah Karg is tied for 82nd place at 10-over 81.



The Bears started on the back-9 and got off to a tough start with the four counting scores combining to shoot 4-over on No. 10. Those four players combined for one birdie over the first nine holes and took the at 11-over par, but they turned it around with a 1-under combined total on the front-9. Chiang and Baillieux made two birdies apiece, Kaur added one birdie with eight pars and Chapelet finished her round with 11 consecutive pars. Baillieux and Kaur carded 1-under on the front-9, while Chapelet shot even-par and Chiang posted 1-over.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor is tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.93, ranks third in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.05 and tied for 11th in par-4 scoring at 20-over 4.36.
  *   Baylor led the tournament with 59 pars in the first round and tied for 10th with seven birdies.
  *   Chiang is tied for second in the 90-player field in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.75, while Baillieux and Chapelet are tied for 13th at even-par 3.00.
  *   Kaur is tied for fourth in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.67, while Baillieux, Karg, Chapelet and Chiang are tied for 15th at even-par 5.00.
  *   Kaur and Chapelet are tied for 18th in par-4 scoring at 2-over 4.18.
  *   Chapelet leads the tournament with 16 pars across 18 holes, while Kaur is tied for second with 15 pars.
  *   Chiang is tied for eighth in the tournament with three birdies.

STAT OF THE DAY
1-under – Baylor’s four counting scores combined to shoot 1-under over their final nine holes after taking the turn at 11-over. After teeing off on the back-9, Chapelet and Kaur combined for 17 pars and one birdie on the front-9, while Baillieux finished with birdies on two of her final three holes to shoot 1-under on the front-9 and Chiang carded 1-over.

Tee times for Saturday’s second round begin at 7:30 a.m. CT from the first and 10th tees.
