Baylor Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Arizona Intercollegiate

THE RUNDOWN
TUCSON, Ariz. – Baylor men’s golf finished in second place at the Arizona Intercollegiate with a 54-hole total of 12-under-par 840. The Bears carded 8-under 276 in Tuesday’s final round, finishing nine shots back of tournament-host No. 11-ranked Arizona (-21).

No. 12 Baylor (-12) placed in front of No. 17 Washington (E), No. 36 New Mexico (+3), Iowa State (+7), Mississippi State (+7), St. Mary’s (+12), No. 44 Long Beach State (+14), UTEP (+18), UTSA (+23), Louisiana-Monroe (+25), Washington State (+29), New Mexico State (+30) and Little Rock (+38).

Four Bears earned top-15 individual finishes in the 84-player field, led by freshman Johnny Keefer, who tied for fifth place at 4-under 209 after shooting a final-round 4-under 67. Senior Cooper Dossey tied for seventh place at 3-under 210 following a final round of 2-under 69. It was Dossey’s 13th career top-10 finish, which ranks 11th in program history.

Junior Mark Reppe tied for 11th place after shooting 4-under 67 on Tuesday to finish at 1-under 212, and junior Ryan Grider tied for 15th place at 1-over 214 after a final round of 2-over 73. Grider was competing in his first tournament for Baylor since the 2019 NCAA Championship in May. He missed the entire fall season due to injury.

Redshirt junior Travis McInroe, who was competing as an individual, shot 5-over 218 with a final round of 5-over 76 to tie for 31st place, and senior Colin Kober tied for 58th place at 11-over 224 following his final round of 3-over 74.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor recorded its fourth top-2 finish out of five stroke play events in 2019-20.
  *   The Bears improved their 2019-20 head-to-head record to 52-11.
  *   BU led the 14-team field with five eagles, three more than any other team.
  *   BU ranked second in the field with 55 birdies and sixth with 158 pars.
  *   Baylor was second in the field in par-3 scoring at 2-over 3.03, second in par-5 scoring at 16-under 4.64 and fourth in par-4 scoring at 18-over 4.11.
  *   Keefer tied for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring at 3-under 2.75.
  *   Reppe tied for third in the field in par-3 scoring at 2-under 2.88.
  *   Dossey tied for third in par-5 scoring at 5-under 4.44.
  *   McInroe and Reppe tied for eighth in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.56.
  *   Dossey and Keefer tied for 12th in par-4 scoring at 1-over 4.03.
  *   Grider and Kober were the only players in the field to make multiple eagles, while Dossey added the Bears’ fifth eagle.
  *   Dossey tied for second in the tournament with 16 birdies across 54 holes, while McInroe tied for seventh with 13 birdies.
  *   Reppe and Keefer tied for eighth with 36 pars.

STAT OF THE DAY
4 – Baylor record its fourth top-2 finish out of five stroke play events during the 2019-20 season.  The Bears won the Gopher Invitational and Fighting Illini Invitational, and BU finished second at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and Arizona Intercollegiate.
