WACO, Texas – Baylor track & field is set to take the national stage again Friday and Saturday as the Bears split to both the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.

The Tyson Invitational will feature 17 schools between the men's and women's programs ranked in the top 25 of the USTFCCCA National Rating Index. The majority of the Baylor roster will be competing in Fayetteville.

"It's always a great meet," head coach Todd Harbour said. "It serves different purposes for different athletes right now. We have some who are trying to improve their standing in the Big 12. It's our last tune-up before the Big 12 meet. It's your last opportunity to compete, get on boards, run faster. We also have a few that are sitting just on the edge of the NCAA meet. This is an opportunity for them to improve on that. Just becoming a better team for the conference meet in two weeks and the NCAA meet."

The men's 4x400-meter relay of Maxwell Willis, Ryan Croson, Matthew Moorer and Howard Fields III is ranked sixth in the NCAA headed into the meet, and the Bears have another group at No. 14. Alex Madlock is ninth in the women's triple jump, and Alyssa Miller is 16th in the women's high jump looking to improve upon those marks at Arkansas.

The Baylor pole vaulters and throwers will make the journey to Iowa State, two weeks before the Big 12 Championships take place at the same facility. KC Lightfoot is currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in the men's pole vault, while Tuesdi Tidwell is fourth in the women's pole vault.

"We have the group that's going to Iowa State, the pole vaulters and the throwers," Harbour said. "It will get them in the rings where they are going to throw and get the vaulters on those runways to give them some help. The South Dakota vaulters will be there at Iowa State, so that's going to be good as well. There will be great competition at both places."

The 2020 Big 12 Indoor Championships will take place Feb. 28-29 at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames.

“We want to continue to get athletes performing at a high level, stay healthy, and try to improve our standing as a national team and as a Big 12 team,” Harbour said. “We’re trying to get better as a team, and to do that you have to have individuals that step up. That’s our goal every week: to become better and be better prepared, do the little things that add up. The preparation will help you achieve what you want to on the track.”

Friday's portion of the Tyson Invitational will be available on SEC Network +. The long jump will get things started at 1 p.m. CT, while running events start at 3 p.m. CT with men's 60-meter hurdles qualifying.
