WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis interim head coach Michael Woodson announced a pair of updates to his coaching staff on Monday.

Izak van der Merwe has been promoted to full-time assistant coach, while George Goldhoff has been named the volunteer assistant coach.

“I couldn’t be happier with the staff that we have put together to lead the Baylor men’s tennis program,” Woodson said. “Our goal is to provide these talented student-athletes with great stability along with a team of individuals who are pushing to improve the players, their co-workers and themselves each day, and I think we have exceeded expectations.”

After two years as a volunteer assistant for the Bears, van der Merwe was elevated to his new full-time position. He has been instrumental in assisting the Bears to a 38-9 record over the last two seasons, including a perfect 26-0 mark at home.

“Izak brings a discipline, professionalism and playing career that is second to none in collegiate tennis. He is passionate and knowledgeable about the game, but his care for the personal and professional development of these young men is what sets him apart,” Woodson said. “There was not an easier decision to be made than to promote Izak as the student-athletes truly look up to him as a role model.”

Goldhoff joins the Bears after a three-year stint on the ATP Tour, tallying a 45-17 ITF record in doubles matches in 2019 and winning six doubles titles. He reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 357 following a four-year playing career at the University of Texas.

“George has a playing background that our student-athletes can learn from and aspire to emulate. I have admired his passion since his collegiate playing days and I share his desire to give back to a sport that has given him so much,” Woodson said. “His idea of leaving the uniform in a better place than he found it resonated with our staff and I knew he was the right fit for our staff as we pursue Preparing Champions For Life.”

Additionally, Jacqui Haddock remains on staff as director of operations, entering her 14th season with Baylor.
