WACO, Texas – Baylor interim head coach Michael Woodson announced the addition of graduate transfer Spencer Furman on Saturday, rounding out the Bears’ incoming class for the 2020-21 season.

Furman spent the last four seasons at Duke University, compiling a 60-37 overall singles record and 61-26 career doubles tally. Due to the shortened 2020 season, Furman retains one year of eligibility and will join the Bears this fall.

“Spencer Furman’s passion for our university and tennis program was clear in the recruiting process, and that’s what we are looking for in our players,” Woodson said. “We are so excited to have him joining this year as his experience at Duke will serve him well in helping lead this program to the top of collegiate tennis.”

In what action he saw in 2020, Furman went 7-2 in singles and 10-1 in doubles, reaching No. 79 in the ITA doubles rankings. He was an All-ACC second-team selection in 2017 and was named an ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete in 2018 and 2020. Furman will team up with fellow Duke graduate transfers Ryan Dickerson and Nick Stachowiak to round out his collegiate career in the green and gold.

“As a staff, we can’t wait to work with him, given his work ethic and desire to be involved in college athletics beyond his playing days,” said Woodson. “His impact on this program is going to be immediate as everyone at Baylor is going to benefit from his discipline and professionalism both on and off the court.”

Furman joins a BU program that has won 13 Big 12 Conference regular season titles and nine tournament crowns over the 24-year history of the league. The Bears will return all 12 players from the 2020 roster that went 13-3 in the shortened season.
