THE RUNDOWN
NORMAN, Okla. – Baylor women’s golf posted the third-best score round in program history with a 5-under-par 275 in Saturday’s second round at the Schooner Fall Classic. The Bears climbed five spots into fifth place at 10-over 570 with one round remaining at Belmar Golf Club.



Baylor tied the best second-round score in the 15-team field at 5-under, which was a 20-stroke improvement from their first-round score of 15-over. The Bears (+10) trail only Oklahoma (-3), Texas (-2), Alabama (+6) and Illinois (+8) entering Sunday’s final round. BU leads Mississippi State (+11), Houston (+12), Florida State (+13), Clemson (+15), Louisville (+16), Texas A&M (+21), Notre Dame (+22), Texas State (+23), Miami (+23) and TCU (+28).



Baylor’s Gurleen Kaur and Elodie Chapelet both posted career-best rounds of 4-under 66, becoming the sixth and seventh players in program history to card 66 or better. Kaur started on the back-9 and made three birdies on his first seven holes. She was 3-under at the turn, and after a bogey on No. 1 she made birdies on No. 6 and No. 9 to finish at 4-under. Chapelet also took the turn at 3-under after making three straight birdies on Nos. 14, 15 and 16. She got to 4-under with a birdie on No. 3, then recovered from a double bogey on No. 4 by making birdies on Nos. 7 and 8.



Kaur is tied for sixth place in the 81-player field at 2-under 138 through 36 holes, while Chapelet is tied for 11th at even-par 140. Erica Chiang carded even-par 70 to climb into a tie for 36th place at 5-oer 145, while Fiona Liddell and Diane Baillieux recorded matching rounds of 3-over 73. Liddell is tied for 49th place at 7-over 147, and Baillieux is tied for 60th place at 9-over 149.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor’s second-round score of 275 was the third-best in program history, trailing only the 273 carded in the third round of the 2014 Schooner Fall Classic and the 274 in the third round of the 2014 Alamo Invitational.
  *   The 275 was Baylor’s best score in the second round of a tournament, surpassing the 277 posted in the second round of the 2005 Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.
  *   Kaur and Chapelet tied the ninth-best round in program history and became the sixth and seventh players in program history to shoot 66 or better, joining Lene Hafsten-Morch, Jaclyn Jansen, Hayley Davis, Giovana Maymon and Laura Lonardi.
  *   Baylor ranks fourth in the 15-team field in par-4 scoring at 12-over 4.12, fifth in par-3 scoring at 4-over 3.08 and seventh in par-5 scoring at 3-over 5.10.
  *   Baylor’s 25 birdies are tied for fourth-most in the tournament – the Bears tied the fewest first-round birdies with five, then made a tournament-high with 20 second-round birdies.
  *   BU ranks seventh in the field with 115 pars.
  *   Kaur is tied for fourth in par-3 scoring at 2-under 2.80, while Chiang is tied for 11th at 1-under 2.90.
  *   Chapelet ranks fourth in par-4 scoring at 3-under 3.85, while Kaur is tied for 14th at 1-over 4.05.
  *   Kaur is also tied for 14th in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.83.
  *   Chapelet is tied for fourth in the tournament with eight birdies across 36 holes.
  *   Kaur is tied for 11th in the field with 26 pars over two rounds.

STAT OF THE DAY
20 – one day after making five birdies in the first round at Belmar, the Bears quadrupled that number with 20 birdies in the second round. Elodie Chapelet had six birdies, followed by Gurleen Kaur and Erica Chiang with five birdies apiece, while Diane Baillieux and Fiona Liddell each made two birdies.

Sunday’s final round begins at 8:30 a.m. CT with tee times from the first and 10th tees. Baylor players are paired with golfers from Illinois and Mississippi State.
