THE RUNDOWN
NORMAN, Okla. – Baylor women’s golf is tied for 10th place after shooting 15-over-par 295 in Friday’s first round of the 2019 Schooner Fall Classic. The Bears are six shots back of the top five with two rounds remaining at Belmar Golf Club.



Gurleen Kaur posted Baylor’s best score of the day with a 2-over 72 to sit in a tie for 19th place. Fiona Liddell and Elodie Chapelet posted matching rounds of 4-over 74 to tie for 37th place, and Erica Chiang rounded out the team scorecard with a 5-over 75 to tie for 50th place. Diane Baillieux carded 6-over 76 and is tied for 59th place.



Baylor (+15) is tied with Texas A&M (+15) and leads TCU (+16), Texas State (+16), Miami (+18) and Notre Dame (+21). The Bears trail Oklahoma (+2), Texas (+3), Alabama (+4), Mississippi State (+7), Florida State (+9), Houston (+10), Illinois (+10), Louisville (+10) and Clemson (+14).



The Bears’ four counting scores were a combined 6-over at the turn, and while Kaur played the back-9 at even-par, the remaining counting scores all shot 3-over coming in. Chapelet and Liddell had the best front-9 scores, taking the turn at 1-over.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor is tied for eighth in the 15-team field in par-4 scoring at 10-over 4.20, ranks 12th in par-3 scoring at 7-over 3.28 and 12th in par-5 scoring at 4-over 5.27.
  *   Baylor’s 62 combined pars are third-most in the field, just two back of the tournament lead, while BU tied for 13th with five first-round birdies.
  *   Elodie Chapelet is tied for fifth in the 81-player field in par-4 scoring at 1-under 3.90.
  *   Erica Chiang and Gurleen Kaur are tied for 10th in par-3 scoring at even-par 3.00.
  *   Kaur made 14 birdies in the first round, tied for seventh-most in the tournament, while Diane Baillieux tied for 14th with 13 pars across 18 holes.

STAT OF THE DAY
62 – Baylor made a combined 62 pars in the first round, which were third-most in the field behind only Illinois with 64 pars and Texas with 63 pars. Kaur led the way with 14 pars, while Baillieux had 13 pars, Chiang and Liddell had 12 pars apiece and Chapelet made 11 pars.


WHAT'S NEXT
Saturday’s second round begins at 8:30 a.m. CT with tee times from the first and 10th tees. Baylor will begin on the 10th tee at 8:50 a.m. in pairings with players from Texas A&M and TCU. Baillieux is up first at 8:50 a.m., and she’ll be followed in 10-minute intervals by Chiang, Chapelet, Liddell and Kaur, respectively.
