Baylor Men’s Golf Leads at Gopher Invitational
Bears hold three-shot advantage entering Monday’s final round

THE RUNDOWN
INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Baylor men’s golf holds a three-shot lead after shooting 8-under-par 560 across two rounds on Sunday at the Gopher Invitational. The Bears were five shots back of the lead in second place after carding 3-under 281 in the first round at Windsong Farm Golf Club, but they made up eight strokes on Texas A&M by shooting 5-under 279 in the second round.

Baylor (-8) leads Texas A&M (-5), West Virginia (-2), Arkansas (-2), Marquette (E), Oklahoma (+3), Purdue (+3), Utah (+6), Kent State (+9), Minnesota (+12), Michigan State (+13), North Carolina State (+18) and Iowa (+24).

Freshman Johnny Keefer leads the Bears and is in second place individually after shooting 2-under 69 in the first round and 4-under 67 in the second round. He made six birdies on the back-9 in his first round, then played a clean second round with four birdies and 14 pars to sit at 6-under 136 through 36 holes, one shot back of Arkansas’ Williams Buhl (-7) in first place.

Seniors Colin Kober and Cooper Dossey are tied for 11th place at 1-under 141. Dossey shot 4-under 67 and 3-over 74, while Kober recorded 1-over 72 and 2-under 69. Travis McInroe is tied for 37th place at 4-over 146 after matching rounds of 2-over 73, and Mark Reppe is tied for 54th place at 7-over 149. Reppe bounced back from an 8-over 79 first round to shoot 1-under 70 in the second round.

Four Baylor players competed as individuals in the Pioneer Creek Collegiate, which ran Saturday and Sunday at Pioneer Creek Golf Course just one mile away from Windsong Farm.

Freshman Tyler Isenhart tied for sixth place in the 94-player field with a 54-hole total of 5-under 211. Isenhart shot 4-under 68 in the first round, 4-over 76 in the second round and 5-under 67 in the final round.

Sophomore Brandon Hoff tied for eighth place at 4-under 212 after rounds of 4-under 68, 3-over 75 and 3-under 69. Freshman Scout McNealy tied for 17th place at 1-over 217. He was in a five-way tie for the tournament lead at 5-under through two rounds after shooting 3-under 69 and 2-under 70, and he posted a 6-over 78 in the final round. Fellow freshman Luke Dossey shot 14-over 230 to tie for 51st place with rounds of even-par 72, 12-over 84 and 2-over 74.

GOPHER INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor leads the 13-team Gopher Invitational field in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.03, ranks fourth in par-4 scoring at 7-over 4.06 and is tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at 5-under 4.83.
  *   Baylor’s 33 birdies are second-most in the field, just one back of Utah’s 34 birdies.
  *   Keefer ranks second in the 70-player field in par-4 scoring at 3-under 3.86.
  *   Dossey, Kober and Keefer are tied for second in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.88.
  *   Dossey, Kober and Keefer are also tied for 10th in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.67.
  *   Keefer’s 12 birdies are two more than any other player in the field, while Dossey is tied for 10th with seven birdies.
  *   Kober and McInroe are tied for ninth in the field with 25 pars across 36 holes.

PIONEER CREEK COLLEGIATE HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Hoff and Isenhart tied for the tournament lead with 14 birdies across 54 holes.
  *   Hoff ranked third in the 94-player field in par-4 scoring at 6-under 3.80.
  *   Isenhart tied for second in the field in par-5 scoring at 6-under 4.50, and he tied for 10th in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.08.
  *   McNealy tied for seventh in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.67.
  *   McNealy led the team and tied for eighth in the field with 38 pars over three rounds.

STAT OF THE DAY
12 – Johnny Keefer posted a tournament-high 12 birdies across 36 holes on Sunday. Ten of his birdies came over the final 27 holes, as he made six birdies on the back-9 in his first round and four birdies with 14 pars in his second round. He birdied 10 different holes on Sunday – Nos. 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 12 (twice), 13 (twice), 17 and 18.

Baylor is paired with Texas A&M and West Virginia for Monday’s final round, and those teams will begin at 8:45 a.m. CT from the first tee.
