THE RUNDOWN
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Baylor women’s golf finished in seventh place after shooting 7-over-par 871 across three rounds at the White Sands Invitational. The Bears carded 4-under 284 in Wednesday’s final round to move up one spot on the leaderboard.



No. 27 Baylor (+7) recorded head-to-head wins over No. 31 Clemson (+9), No. 34 Georgia (+9), No. 21 Mississippi State (+10), SMU (+18), No. 25 Ohio State (+19), Tulane (+25) and New Mexico (+39). The Bears finished behind No. 3 Texas (-36), No. 17 Arkansas (-7), No. 41 Oklahoma (-6), No. 24 Houston (+2), No. 48 Tennessee (+3) and North Texas (+6).



Gurleen Kaur led the Bears for the third time in five tournaments this season. She posted a clean final round with four birdies and 14 pars to card 4-under 68 and climb into a tie for sixth place at 5-under 211. Kaur made birdies on her final two holes, which moved her up from a tie for 10th place into a tie for sixth. With her ninth career top-10 finish, Kaur ties Anna Rehnholm for the 11th-most top-10s in program history.



Baylor also received below-par final rounds from Erica Chiang and Elodie Chapelet. Chiang carded 2-under 70, while Chapelet posted 1-under 71, as both tied for 41st place at 6-over 222. Fiona Liddell had the Bears’ final counting score with a 3-over 75, and she tied for 30th place at 4-over 222. Jordan Shackelford tied for 63rd at 10-over 226 following a final round of 6-over 78, and Anika Veintemilla, who was competing as an individual, tied for 51st place at 8-over 224 with a final round of 3-over 75.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor completed its fall season by finishing in the top half of the field in all five tournaments, including a trio of fourth-place finishes.
  *   Baylor ranked third in the 14-team field in par-3 scoring at 12-over 4.08, eighth in par-3 scoring at 14-over 3.23 and tied for 11th in par-5 scoring at 5-under 4.92.
  *   Baylor’s 43 birdies were fourth-most in the tournament, and BU ranked ninth with 172 pars.
  *   Kaur tied for fifth in the 82-player field in par-5 scoring at 7-under 4.42 and tied for 10th in par-4 scoring at even-par 4.00.
  *   Liddell tied for 16th in par-4 scoring at 1-over 4.03.
  *   Chiang tied for 14th in par-3 scoring at 1-over 3.08.
  *   Kaur was one back of the lead and tied for fifth in the field with 13 birdies, while Chiang tied for seventh with 12 birdies.
  *   Chapelet and Veintemilla led the team and tied for 17th overall with 37 pars across 54 holes.

STAT OF THE DAY
3 – Three Baylor players shot below par in the final round, helping the team post the fourth-best score on Wednesday. Gurleen Kaur played a bogey-free round with four birdies on her way to a 4-under 68, while Erica Chiang made five birdies in her 2-under 70 and Elodie Chapelet recorded four birdies in her 1-under 71. Those three players combined for 13 birdies in the final round.

Baylor has more than three months until it returns to action to begin the spring season on Feb. 9 at the SMU Spring Invite.
