THE RUNDOWN
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Baylor women’s golf is in sixth place after shooting 3-over-par 291 in Monday’s first round of the White Sands Invitational at Ocean Club Golf Course. The Bears are four shots back of third place with two rounds remaining.



Baylor (+3) trails only Texas (-12), Arkansas (-5), Houston (-1), Clemson (E) and Georgia (+1). The Bears lead Ohio State (+5), Mississippi State (+6), Oklahoma (+7), North Texas (+7), Tennessee (+8), Tulane (+11), SMU (+11) and New Mexico (+12).



Baylor was led by Gurleen Kaur and Fiona Liddell, who both shot 1-under 71 to tie for 12th place. Kaur made a tournament-high six birdies, including five on the back-9, while Liddell played a clean round with one birdie and 17 pars.



Jordan Shackelford posted a 1-over 73 to tie for 27th place, while Elodie Chapelet rounded out the team scorecard with a 4-over 76 to tie for 53rd place. Anika Veintemilla, who is competing as an individual, shot 1-over 73 to tie for 27th place, and Erica Chiang is tied for 64th place at 5-over 77.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor ranks third in the 14-team field in par-4 scoring at 4-over 4.08, tied for seventh in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.90 and 12th in par-3 scoring at 6-over 3.30.
  *   BU is tied for third in the field with 15 birdies and tied for eighth with 56 pars.
  *   Kaur is tied for the tournament lead with six birdies, while Chiang is tied for 10th with four birdies.
  *   Kaur is tied for seventh in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.50.
  *   Veintemilla and Liddell are tied for 13th in par-3 scoring at even-par 3.00.
  *   Shackelford, Kaur and Liddell are tied for 12th in par-4 scoring at even-par 4.00.
  *   Liddell and Veintemilla are tied for 16th in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.75.
  *   Liddell posted a tournament-high 17 pars in the first round.

STAT OF THE DAY
5 – Gurleen Kaur made five birdies on the back-9 on her way to shooting 3-under 33 after the turn. She made birdies on Nos. 10, 11, 13, 17 and 18, and she added a birdie on No. 6 to lead the tournament with six first-round birdies.

Baylor is paired with Clemson and Georgia for Tuesday’s second round, which is a 7 a.m. CT shotgun start.
