Baylor Men’s Golf Heads to Florida for Valspar Collegiate

WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s golf is headed to the Sunshine State to play in the Valspar Collegiate, which runs Sunday through Tuesday in Palm City, Fla. The 54-hole tournament will be played on the par-71, 7,114-yard course at Floridian National Golf Club.



No. 23 Baylor is one of 12 top-35 ranked squads in the 15-team field. BU will compete against No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Duke, No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 8 Texas, No. 9 Georgia Tech, No. 11 LSU, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 20 South Florida, No. 27 Texas A&M, No. 30 Florida State, No. 31 South Carolina, Houston, Lamar and UT Arlington.



All three rounds are scheduled for shotgun starts, with Sunday’s first round starting at 12:30 p.m. CT. Monday’s second round and Tuesday’s final round are both slated for 7:30 a.m. CT.



Baylor is returning to the Valspar Collegiate after finishing tied for fifth place in a 16-team field at last year’s tournament. Matthew Perrine tied for third place at 7-under, while Garrett May tied for seventh place at 3-under.



The BU lineup is led by junior Colin Kober in the No. 1 spot for the second time in the last three tournaments. Junior Cooper Dossey is at No. 2 for the second time in his career after making his first appearance in the No. 1 spot at the Bears’ last tournament, the Querencia Cabo Collegiate.



Senior Braden Bailey is playing at No. 3, extending his streak to 45 consecutive tournaments in the BU lineup covering his entire collegiate career. Sophomore Ryan Grider is at No. 4, while senior Garrett May rounds out the lineup at No. 5. Sophomore Mark Reppe is competing as an individual.



Kober begins the first round on No. 10, while Bailey and Dossey will tee off on No. 11, Grider starts on No. 12, May tees off from No. 13 and Reppe begins on No. 18.



Baylor is coming off a third-place finish in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. The Bears have finished top-three in both tournaments during the spring season, including second-place at The All-American. BU won two tournaments in the fall and has placed top-three in four of six events during the 2018-19 season.



All five members of the BU lineup have stroke averages of 73.00 or better for the seasons. Kober leads the Bears with a 72.00 stroke average, followed by Dossey at 72.21, Bailey at 72.29, Grider at 72.36 and May at 73.00. Those five players have competed in every event this season and have combined to record 28 of 70 rounds at par or better.
