THE RUNDOWN
PALOS VERDES, Calif. – Baylor women’s golf shot 17-over-par 301 in Monday’s second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, moving into 13th place at 37-over-par 605. The Bears are just six shots back of seventh place entering Tuesday’s final round at Palos Verdes Golf Club.



No. 35-ranked Baylor (+37) leads three teams, including a pair of top-10 ranked squads. BU is in front of No. 5 Alabama (+40), No. 8 Arizona State (+47) and No. 42 Colorado (+48). The Bears are within six shots of No. 9 Arizona (+31), No. 20 Florida State (+32), Ohio State (+33), No. 3 Florida (+35), No. 26 Furman (+35) and No. 19 Washington (+36).



No. 13 Stanford (+6) leads the tournament by six shots over No. 12 UCLA (+12), followed by No. 2 Texas (+18), No. 1 USC (+19), No. 14 Wake Forest (+24) and Oklahoma State (+26).



Baylor’s best second-round score came from senior Maria Vesga, who carded a 1-over 72 to climb into a tie for 25th place at 7-over 149. Sophomore Diane Baillieux shot 3-over 74 to move into a tie for 30th place at 8-over 150, while fellow sophomore Gurleen Kaur shot 6-over 77 and is tied for 47th place at 11-over 153. Junior Erica Chiang posted the Bears’ final counting score at 7-over 78 and is tied with Kaur in 47th place at 11-over 153. Freshman Emma Bradley is tied for 75th place at 17-over 159 after shooting 8-over 79 in the second round.


HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor ranks third in the 16-team field in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.97, 11th in par-4 scoring at 38-over 4.35 and 16th in par-3 scoring at 17-over 3.43.
  *   BU is tied for 10th with 17 birdies and also tied for 10th with 101 pars.
  *   Baillieux is tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 3-under 4.50, while Chiang is tied for third at 1-under 4.75.
  *   Kaur leads the team and is tied for 18th in the 84-player field with a 1-over 3.13 par-3 scoring average.
  *   Vesga leads the team and is tied for 21st in par-4 scoring at 5-over 4.23.
  *   Vesga and Kaur are tied for the team lead and 18th in the field with 23 pars.
  *   Baillieux is tied for 15th in the field with five birdies across 36 holes.

STAT OF THE DAY
8-over – Baylor’s five players combined to shoot 8-over-par on the front-9, which was a significant improvement from the 17-over-par the Bears combined to shoot on the back-9. Baillieux was 1-under on the front-9, while Vesga was 1-over, Bradley was 2-over and Chiang and Kaur were 3-over.

Tuesday’s final round is a 10:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Baylor players are paired with golfers from Alabama, Arizona State and Colorado.
