WACO, Texas- Baylor acrobatics & tumbling tied a program record with six National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) season awards, the organization announced Saturday.

BU’s honors include senior top Ashley Echelberger as NCATA Most Outstanding Athlete, junior top Joie Hensley as NCATA Specialist of the Year, and four NCATA All-Americans in senior top/base Kaylee Adams, senior top Hope Bravo, senior base Ceara Gray and Echelberger.

Echelberger gives Baylor its third-consecutive season with the Most Outstanding Athlete and fourth overall as she joins Kiara Nowlin (2015, 2017) and Gray (2018) on the list of Bears to have earned the honor. Echelberger, a standout tumbler and top, competed in 12 different heats throughout the season for Baylor and averaged a score of 9.70 or higher in eight different heats. She was a part of six perfect scores between two different heats.

Hensley makes it back-to-back years for the Bears with the Specialist of the Year, as Adams previously took home the award in its first year of existence for the sport in 2018. Hensley, a high-flying top who excelled in the toss event, helped the Bears average a 9.69 score in the synchronized toss and a 9.84 in the open toss. She earned one perfect 10 on the season and never scored below a 9.50 in toss.

Adams and Gray were named All-Americans for the second time in their respective careers, while Echelberger and Bravo earned the honor for the first time, moving Baylor’s all-time total of All-Americans to 23. Baylor’s four 2019 All-Americans is an NCATA record, previously held by BU with three honorees (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018).

Additionally, Baylor placed 18 student-athletes on the 2019 NCATA Academic Honor Roll, per the organization’s release. Bravo, Echelberger, Hensley, and seniors Makenah Cotner, Bailey Hollier, Kati Horstmann, Gigi Mendoza, juniors Mary Berdis, Lexie Amrhein, sophomores Emily Hoppie, Morgan Celum and freshmen Kourtney Coven, Olivia Felton, Tawn Gurnsey, Rachel Jillson, Maddie McNamee, Sophia Ranni and Jayla Simmons were among those honored.
