WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s golf is headed to Broken Arrow, Okla., to compete in the 2019 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship, which will be played Sunday through Tuesday on the par-72, 6,341-yard course at Golf Club of Oklahoma.

No. 32-ranked Baylor is the No. 4 seed in the tournament behind only No. 2 Texas (No. 1 seed), No. 18 Oklahoma (No. 2 seed) and No. 24 TCU (No. 3 seed). The Bears will also compete against No. 37 Texas Tech (No. 5 seed), No.39 Iowa State (No. 6 seed), Oklahoma State (No. 7 seed), Kansas (No. 8 seed) and Kansas State (No. 9 seed). West Virginia does not have a women’s golf team.

Baylor’s lineup for the championship is led by sophomore Gurleen Kaur in the No. 1 spot, followed by senior Maria Vesga, junior Erica Chiang, freshman Emma Bradley and sophomore Diane Baillieux. Three players in the BU lineup recorded top-10 finishes at last year’s Big 12 Championship, while the other two will be making their first appearance at the event.

The Bears tied for second place at the 2018 Big 12 Championship, led by a trio of players who earned All-Tournament Team recognition. Baillieux finished in sixth place at 4-over 220, Kaur took seventh place at 5-over 221 and Vesga tied for eighth place at 6-over 222.

Baylor last won the Big 12 Championship in 2015, when the Bears claimed the first conference championship, starting a stretch where they would win their first NCAA Regional title and finish as the national runner-up at the NCAA Championship. BU has finished top-three at the Big 12 Championship in five of the last seven seasons after doing so only three times in the league’s first 15 years.

Kaur leads this year’s Baylor squad with a 72.35 stroke average that currently ranks third on the Bears’ all-time single-season list. Vesga’s 73.70 season mark ranks 12th on the single-season list, and Chiang ranks 19th at 74.33. Kaur currently holds the program record with a 72.84 career stroke average, while Vesga ranks sixth at 74.39 and Baillieux ranks eighth at 74.96.

Baylor is paired with Texas Tech and Iowa State for Sunday’s first round, which begins at 9 a.m. CT. Baillieux has the Bears’ first tee time at 10:00 a.m., followed by Bradley at 10:10 a.m., Chiang at 10:20 a.m., Vesga at 10:30 a.m. and Kaur at 10:40 a.m. Pairings for Monday’s second round will be set based on first-round standings.
