THE RUNDOWN
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Baylor men’s golf is in fifth place after shooting 2-under-par 566 across two rounds on Friday at the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate. The Bears carded 1-over 285 in the first round and improved to 3-under 281 in the second round at Papago Golf Course.

No. 25 Baylor (-2) is just two shots back of second place entering Saturday’s final round. The Bears trail No. 2 Arizona State (-13), No. 37 UCLA (-4), No. 7 Texas (-4) and No. 1 Oklahoma State (-3). BU leads No. 2 Arizona State’s second squad (-1), No. 23 North Carolina (+1), No. 36 Iowa State (+3), No. 43 Marquette (+4), Saint Mary’s (+5), No. 31 BYU (+9), Colorado (+12), No. 32 UNLV (+14) and Utah (+16).

While Baylor and seven other teams completed both rounds before darkness hit, UCLA, Arizona’s State second squad, Marquette, Saint Mary’s, Colorado and Utah were still on the course. Those teams will resume their second rounds on Saturday morning, and pairings will be reset for the final round based on standings.

Baylor’s Colin Kober is tied for fourth place at 4-under 138 after rounds of 4-under 67 and even-par 71. Garrett May is tied for 20th place at even-par 142 after improving by six shots from 3-over 74 in the first round to 3-under 68 in the second round. Cooper Dossey is tied for 24th place at 1-over 143 after rounds of even-par 71 and 1-over 72, while Ryan Grider is tied for 39th place at 3-over 145 following rounds of 4-over 75 and 1-under 70.

Braden Bailey is tied for 57th place at 6-over 148 after shooting 2-over 73 and 4-over 75. BU also entered a pair of individuals, with Brandon Hoff tied for 53rd place at 5-over and Mark Reppe tied for 72nd place at 10-over. Both individuals were still on the course when play was called for the day due to darkness. Hoff has two holes remaining in his second round and Reppe is on his final hole.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor leads the 14-team field in par-3 scoring at 6-over 3.15, ranks tied for fifth in par-5 scoring at 10-under 4.67 and sixth in par-4 scoring at 10-over 4.09.
  *   BU leads the field with 128 pars, eight more than any other team.
  *   Kober ranks third in the 80-player field in par-4 scoring at 4-under 3.82.
  *   May and Dossey are tied for third in par-3 scoring at even-par 3.00.
  *   Bailey and May are tied for 16th in par-5 scoring at 3-under 4.50.
  *   Kober ranks second in the field with 28 pars across 36 holes, while Dossey is tied for third with 27 pars, and May and Bailey are tied for fifth with 26 pars.
  *   Grider, Hoff and Kober are tied for the team lead with six birdies apiece.
  *   Bailey made an eagle on the 561-yard, par-5 first hole, one of four eagles made on the hole and one of 13 eagles made overall on the first day of the tournament.

STAT OF THE DAY
128 – Baylor leads the field with 128 pars, eight more than any other team. Kober leads the team with 28 pars, followed by Dossey with 27 pars, May and Bailey with 26 pars apiece and Grider with 21 pars.

WHAT'S NEXT
Players who were still on the course when play was called due to darkness will complete their second rounds on Saturday morning.
