BAYLOR A&T: Echelberger, Hensley Earn More NCATA Weekly Honors

WACO, Texas – Once again, the Baylor acrobatics and tumbling duo of senior top Ashley Echelberger and junior top Joie Hensley are taking home weekly honors as announced by the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA). Echelberger was named Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week and third time this season, while Hensley earned Co-Specialist of the Week merits alongside Kelsey Kyle from Fairmont State, per the organization’s release.

Echelberger led the Bears to a tri-meet victory over Arizona Christian and Hawai’i Pacific, competing in 10 heats and scoring two perfect 10’s in compulsory toss and the six-element acro heat. She added a 9.95 in both the compulsory pyramid and open pyramid and recorded seven scores of 9.75 or higher.

Hensley picks up her fourth honor of the season after topping a perfect 10 scoring open toss and a 9.80 score in the synchronized toss in the March 30 tri-meet victory. The Bears scored an impressive 29.70 in the toss event at ACU/vs. HPU, their season-best in the event. Hensley now leads the Bears with four weekly NCATA honors this season.

Baylor has earned nine NCATA weekly awards in 2019 and has claimed honors in three straight weeks.
