THE RUNDOWN
BRYAN, Texas – Baylor men’s golf is in second place and one shot back of the lead with play suspended due to weather late in the first round at the Aggie Invitational. The Bears sit at 8-under-par with all five players through at least 16 holes in the first round at Traditions Golf Club. The tournament has been reduced to two rounds and will be resumed at 8:30 a.m. CT Sunday.

Garrett May and Ryan Grider both completed their rounds before play was suspended. May shot 3-under 69 to sit in a tie for fourth place, while Grider shot even-par 72 to tie for 20th place. Braden Bailey is also tied for fourth place at 3-under with two holes remaining in his round, while Colin Kober and Cooper Dossey each have one hole remaining, with Kober tied for 10th place at 2-under and Dossey tied for 26th at 1-over. Mark Reppe, who is competing as an individual, finished his round at 1-over 73 in a tie for 26th place.

No. 24 Baylor (-8) is one shot back of the lead held by No. 1 Oklahoma State (-9), which finished its first round before play was suspended. The Bears lead No. 27 Texas A&M (-5), No. 2 Arizona State (+1), No. 12 LSU (+1), Washington (+3), No. 10 Texas Tech (+4), New Mexico State (+6), Lamar (+11), North Texas (+11), Kent State (+12), New Mexico (+16) and Michigan (+19). Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Kent State were the only teams to complete their entire first rounds.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor leads the 13-team field in par-3 scoring at 3-under 3.94, ranks third in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.79 and fifth in par-3 scoring at even-par 3.00.
  *   Baylor leads the field with 22 birdies and ranks fifth with 49 pars.
  *   Kober is tied for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring at 2-under 2.50, while Reppe is tied for 12th at 1-under 2.80.
  *   Dossey and Bailey are tied for second in par-4 scoring at 2-under 3.78, while May is tied for 12th at 1-under 3.90 and Reppe is tied for 15th at 1-under 3.92.
  *   May and Grider are tied for fourth in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.50, while Bailey is tied for 12th at 1-under 4.67.
  *   Reppe is tied for fifth in the field with 14 pars and May is tied for 10th with 13 pars.
  *   Bailey and Dossey are tied for sixth in the field with five birdies apiece, and Kober, Reppe, Grider and May are tied for 10th with four birdies each.

STAT OF THE DAY
3.94 – Baylor leads the 13-team field in par-4 scoring at 3-under 3.94. Four members of the BU lineup have par-4 scoring averages at par or better, with Dossey and Bailey leading the way at 2-under 3.78, May at 1-under 3.90 and Kober at even-par 4.00.

The tournament has been shortened to two rounds, and play resumes at 8:30 a.m. CT Sunday.
