THE RUNDOWN
CARROLLTON, Texas – Baylor men’s golf is in eighth place after the first day of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at Maridoe Golf Club. The Bears sit at 22-over-par with three holes remaining in their second round, which will be resumed at 8:30 a.m. CT Tuesday.

BU posted the fourth-best first-round score in the 14-team field with an 8-over-par 280, but the Bears are 14-over through 15 holes in the second round. Baylor (+22) trails Oklahoma State (-12), Arkansas (+4), NC State (+6), North Carolina (+12), SMU (+15), Pepperdine (+16) and Iowa (+21). The Bears lead Kent State (+28), Houston (+33), UTSA (+36), Michigan (+40), Charlotte (+43) and Minnesota (+44).

Colin Kober is tied for ninth place individually at 2-over-par through 33 holes. Kober shot 2-over 72 in the first round and was 2-over through three holes in the second round, but he strung together four birdies in a six-hole span between the third and eighth holes to get back to even-par before finishing the day with consecutive bogeys.

Braden Bailey, Cooper Dossey and Ryan Grider are all tied for 37th place at 8-over-par. Bailey had the best first-round score of the trio with a 1-over 71, while Grider shot 3-over 73 and Dossey carded a 6-over 76 that didn’t count toward the team score. Dossey was 10-over through 22 holes in the tournament, but he finished strong with four birdies on his final 11 holes of the day. Garrett May counted a first-round 2-over 72, and he’s tied for 43rd place individually at 9-over through 33 holes.

The remaining four members of the Baylor roster are competing as individuals. Austin Cotton sits tied for 53rd place at 11-over through 32 holes, while Mark Reppe is tied for 64th place at 14-over with four holes left in his second round, and Brandon Hoff and Travis McInroe are tied for 67th at 15-over through 33 holes.

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Baylor ranks fourth in the 14-team field in par-5 scoring at 1-under 4.93, tied for seventh in par-4 scoring at 33-over 4.30 and tied for eighth in par-3 scoring at 3-over 3.08.
  *   BU is tied for seventh in the field with 93 pars and tied for fifth with 22 birdies.
  *   Colin Kober is tied for sixth in the 80-player field in par-5 scoring at 2-under 4.33, while Cooper Dossey is tied for 11th at 1-under 4.67.
  *   Ryan Grider is tied for second in the field with 23 pars, and Braden Bailey is tied for 12th with 21 pars.
  *   Dossey leads the team and is tied for sixth overall with seven birdies.
  *   Kober is tied for ninth in the tournament with six birdies, while Brandon Hoff and Garrett May have five birdies apiece.

STAT OF THE DAY
4-over – Baylor shot 4-over 284 in the first round, which had them one shot back of third place. The Bears dropped back four spots by shooting 14-over through 15 holes in the second round, but they’re only six shots out of the top five with 21 holes to play in the tournament.

WHAT'S NEXT
Teams will return to the course to complete their second rounds starting at 8:30 a.m. CT Tuesday. The entire field will continue play into the third round using the same starting holes as the previous two rounds. Baylor will start the third round from the 18th tee.
