TYLER, Texas – Baylor football sixth-year senior quarterback Dequan Finn has been named to the 2024 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list, as announced Wednesday.

The award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity to persist as well as determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

Additionally, the nominee must either have played football at and graduated from a Texas High School and/or be currently playing at a Texas-based Division I four-year university.

Finn, who has already racked up multiple preseason mentions on the Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award and Golden Arm Award watch lists, was named the 2023 MAC Most Valuable Player after leading the league in passing efficiency (151.04), yards (2,657), touchdown passes (22) and total offense (247.7) a year ago. His 563 rushing yards were the most among MAC quarterbacks, as his dual-threat abilities landed him MAC West Offensive Player of the Week honors three times. He also earned his second-career all-conference accolade in 2023 and first as a first-team selection.

A native of Detroit, Finn comes to Baylor having played in 45 games over his collegiate career, including 32 starts. He has racked up 7,074 yards and 63 passing touchdowns, while rushing for another 1,840 yards in his career on 389 carries with 25 TDs.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list will be narrowed down to no more than 16 semifinalists in November, and then up to five finalists in December, as selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 22, 2025, where the winner will be announced.

Historically, former Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty won the inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award in 2013, and most recently former running back Abram Smith was named a finalist for the honor in 2021.
