WACO, Texas -- Nearly pulling off a miracle finish, redshirt sophomore quarterback Sawyer Robertson overthrew Ketron Jackson Jr. in the end zone on the last play of the game as the Baylor Bears fell to 12th-ranked Utah, 20-13, Saturday afternoon at McLane Stadium.

Overcoming a double-digit second-half deficit, the Utes (2-0) scored twice in the last two minutes to hand the Bears (0-2) their second-straight home loss to open the season.

Making his first-career start, Robertson, while filling in for an injured Blake Shapen, threw for 218 yards and also scored on a four-yard touchdown run in the first half. But a pair of second-half interceptions led to the 10 points that proved to be the difference.

Utah also had a 15-play, 88-yard drive that took more than eight minutes off the clock, tying it up on a seven-yard TD run by redshirt freshman quarterback Nate Johnson. Limited to a few snaps throughout the game, Johnson was 4-for-5 for 57 yards on the drive and helped the Utes convert three times on third down.

After Utah tied it up, Robertson was picked off by safety Cole Bishop on a third-and-16 from his own 20-yard line. Jaylon Glover scored from 11 yards out to give the Utes their first lead of the game with 17 seconds left.

Down to 14 seconds and no timeouts after the kickoff, Robertson hit Hal Presley for a short gain, then found him down the near sideline for a 47-yard pickup to Utah’s 22-yard line with one second left.

On the last play, on an attempt to find Jackson, the ball sailed over the Arkansas transfer’s head.

Baylor, coming out strong after a 42-31 loss to Texas State, took a 10-3 halftime lead on Robertson’s four-yard TD run and the first of two Isaiah Hankins field goal. Hankins missed a 45-yarder late in the half.

The Bears tacked on a Hankins’ 24-yarder to go up 13-3 on the first series of the third quarter, but those would be the last points they scored.

Baylor finished with 339 yards total offense, including 121 on the ground. Dominic Richardson led the way with 77 yards on 14 carries, while Presley had four catches for 72 yards.

Hosting its third-straight home game to open the season, Baylor will face Long Island (0-1) at 11 a.m. next Saturday, Sept. 16, at McLane Stadium. The Sharks opened with a 27-10 loss to Ohio last week and are playing at Bryant later today.
