WACO, Texas -- Baylor football wraps up a two-game homestand with a matchup vs. Houston on Saturday, with kickoff slated for 2:30 p.m. at McLane Stadium.



The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network. Shawn Kenny (play-by-play), Ahman Green (analyst) and Tori Petry (sideline) will have the call on ESPN+, while John Morris (play-by-play), J.J. Joe (analyst) and Ricky Thompson (sideline) voice the game on the Baylor Sports Media Network.



Baylor (3-5, 2-3 Big 12 Conference) will be facing its third new member of the Big 12, welcoming Houston (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) to McLane Stadium. The game will mark Baylor’s first meeting with the Cougars since the two were members of the Southwest Conference in 1995, where the two teams met annually starting in 1976.



The contest will serve as a “White Out” and a “Salute to Service” on Saturday.



SCOUTING THE COUGS

• Houston comes into the matchup with the Bears after facing defending league champion Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., last weekend, falling 41-0.

• The Cougars have suffered losses at Texas Tech and vs. TCU and No. 8 Texas, earning a win on a hail mary pass vs. red-hot West Virginia, losing to Rice and earning non-league wins over Sam Houston and UTSA.

• Head Coach Dana Holgorsen is in his fifth season with the Cougars after a decorated career as the head coach at West Virginia, where he went 5-2 against the Bears in his career. Holgorsen previously served as the OC at Houston from 2008-09 after three different roles with Texas Tech from 2000-07 and a season as the OC at Oklahoma State (2010). He got his start in coaching for the inventor of the Air Raid, Hal Mumme at Valdosta Stat from 1993-95.

• Doug Belk is the associate head coach and DC and is in his fifth year in the role, also coaching safeties during his time in Houston. He previously coached corners at WVU from 2017-18 and the secondary at Valdosta State from 2011-13. Mark Scott is the special teams coordinator and is in his fifth year after spending the 2012-18 seasons at WVU. UH does not have an offensive coordinator title on its staff.

• Houston is averaging 25.3 points per game, allowing 32.5. UH is averaging 382.9 yards of total offense, including 116.4 on the ground and 266.5 in the air. Defensively, the Cougs are allowing 416.1 yards of total offense, including 254.5 in the air and 161.6 on the ground.

• Texas Tech transfer QB Donovan Smith is averaging 258.4 yards passing per game, with 16 TDs and five interceptions. Parker Jenkins has 68 carries and 321 yards with three scores, while Smith has added 187 yards rushing and four TDs. Samuel Brown has 45 catches for 678 yards with two TDs, with Matthew Golden owning 37 catches for 389 yards and six scores. Defensively, Malik Robinson and AJ Haulcy each have 61 tackles. Nelson Ceaser has 5.5 sacks and eight tackles for a loss, while Isaiah Hamilton and Malik Fleming each have three picks.



CONNECTING THE TEAMS

• The two teams have several connections including Baylor Coach Dave Aranda, who served as the linebackers coach at Houston in 2003-04.

• Aranda and UH Coach Dana Holgorsen were on the staff at Texas Tech together in 2000-02, with Aranda serving as a graduate assistant and Holgorsen coaching the inside wide receivers.

• Baylor AD Mack Rhoades served as the AD/Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at Houston for five years from 2009-15, with Houston AD Chris Pezman working as the Assistant AD for Football Operations during his time with the Cougs.



SERIES HISTORY

• Baylor leads the all-time series with Houston, 14-13-1, including 8-6-1 in games played in Waco.

• The Bears have won two straight in the series and are meeting for the first time since 1995. The two teams met every year from 1976-1995 as members of the Southwest Conference.



LAST MEETING

• Baylor and Houston last met in the Astrodome in 1995 in Houston, with BU earning a 47-7 win that included BU scoring the first 40 points of the game.

• Baylor totaled 35 first downs, rushed for 311 yards and held Houston to just 45, and threw for 280 as part of a 591-yard game. UH was held to 178 yards total, with BU picking off two passes and recovering a fumble. James Van Dyke connected on four field goals, including 21, 22, 27 and 31 yards.

• The Bears got 141 yards receiving from Pearce Pegross, who added a TD, Jeff Watson threw for 214 yards and a score and Dexter Ford had 74 yards rushing and a TD.

• Baylor will travel to face Kansas State on Nov. 11 in Manhattan, Kan.
