WACO, Texas -- Baylor sophomore running back Richard Reese has been voted as preseason All-Big 12 Conference by the league media, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.



Reese, a native of Bellville, Texas, was one of two running backs honored on the preseason All-Big 12 team, joining Devin Neal (Kansas). It marks the second preseason first-team All-Big 12 Conference accolade for Reese, who also earned the honor from Athlon Sports.



A first-team Freshman All-America selection in 2022 by the Football Writers Association of America and the Pro Football Network, Reese was named Big 12 Conference Offensive Freshman of the Year by the league coaches and Offensive Freshman of the Year in the state of Texas by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.



Reese shattered the Baylor record for rushing yards by a freshman in 2022, totaling 972 yards on 198 totes, with 14 TDs, which ranked fourth-best in BU single-season history. He finished just 28 yards shy of becoming the 16th 1,000-yard rusher in program history. Reese, a two-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in 2022, had three games of 100+ yards rushing, including a 36-carry, 148-yard and three-TD outing in a 45-17 beatdown of Texas Tech in Lubbock.



The Bears open the 2023 season on Sept. 2, playing host to Texas State at McLane Stadium at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
