WACO, Texas -- Freshman Richard Reese rushed for a career-high 186 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries to help Baylor beat the Kansas Jayhawks, 35-23, for Homecoming Saturday afternoon at McLane Stadium.

After KU (5-3, 2-3) scored 20 unanswered points in the second half, Reese gained all but one yard on a seven-play, 69-yard drive and scored from two yards out to stem the tide and help Baylor (4-3, 2-2) win its 13th-straight against Kansas.

In a dominant first half that saw the Bears outgain the Jayhawks, 250-85, Baylor took a 28-3 lead into the locker room. And it could have been more if not for a couple turnovers.

Blake Shapen connected with Monaray Baldwin for a 17-yard TD pass to get the scoring going. Reese scored his first touchdown of the day on a 14-yard run before the Jayhawks got on the board with a 30-yard field goal by Jacob Borcilla.

Backup quarterback Kyron Drones came in for two plays and capped a 16-play, 73-yard drive with a four-yard keeper that stretched the lead to 21-3.

Pinned back to their one-yard line on a punt, the Bears answered with a 15-play, 99-yard drive and made it 28-3 on a 10-yard end-around run by freshman Jordan Nabors.

Getting the ball back on a forced fumble by Devin Neal and return by Devin Lemear, Baylor missed a scoring chance when a ball was dropped in the end zone on a would-be touchdown and then Shapen was picked off on the next play on a deflected pass.

Baylor had an impressive opening drive in the second half, but Jerome Robinson got a strip sack and returned a fumble 49 yards to the 9, setting up a two-yard run by the Jayhawks' Devin Neal.

Kansas made things interesting in the fourth quarter when Jason Bean connected with Quentin Skinner for a 24-yard TD pass and then finished off a 93-yard drive with a four-yard run after KU stopped the Bears on a fourth-and-one play.

With the lead cut to five, Baylor responded with a Reese's special and iced the game with the freshman's two-yard TD run with 2:37 left.

The Bears go back on the road to face Texas Tech at 6:30 p.m. next Saturday, Oct. 29, in Lubbock on ESPN2.
