WACO, Texas -- Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen threw for a career-high 345 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but ninth-ranked Oklahoma State picked off a pair of fourth-down passes and held on for a 36-25 win over the No. 16 Bears Saturday afternoon before a sellout crowd of 47,979 at McLane Stadium.

Spencer Sanders threw for one touchdown, ran for another and came up with a big fumble recovery late in the game to help the Cowboys (4-0, 1-0) avenge last year's 21-16 loss to Baylor (3-2, 1-1) in the Big 12 Championship game.

After a John Mayers field goal on the opening drive, OSU scored 16 unanswered points on Sanders' eight-yard TD pass to Bryson Green and a one-yard keeper by Sanders, sandwiched around a safety when the Cowboys tackled Richard Reese in the end zone.

OSU opened the second half with an electrifying 98-yard kickoff return by Jaden Nixon that pushed the lead to 23-3.

Baylor answered right back with Shapen's 49-yard TD pass to Monaray Baldwin. And then, after a pick by Christian Morgan, the Bears capitalized with a one-yard TD run by Reese to make it a one-score game, 23-17.

Another big kickoff return by Nixon set up a one-yard TD run by Dominic Richardson, who finished with 73 yards on 24 carries. The Cowboys added a chip-shot field goal after a fourth-down stop in Baylor territory to extend the lead to 33-17.

Going for it again on fourth down, Shapen hooked up with Baldwin again for a 70-yard touchdown pass, then connected with Gavin Holmes for the two-point conversion to make it 33-25 with 2:14 left in the third quarter.

Baldwin had a career-high seven catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns, while Reese tallied 85 yards on 17 totes and ran his season total to 400 yards.

After Shapen's first interception of the game and just the second of his career, the Cowboys added another short field goal by Tanner Brown. But, only after Sanders recovered a fumble by Ollie Gordon that Morgan forced.

OSU's defense came up with the clincher on the next series when Jason Taylor II picked off a Shapen pass intended for Josh Cameron.

The Bears finished with an edge in total offense (457-379), but lost the turnover battle, 2-1, and had no sacks on Sanders.

Baylor, off next Saturday, will travel to face West Virginia (2-2, 0-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in Morgantown, W. Va. The Mountaineers played Texas in a late game Saturday in Austin and will also be off next Saturday.
