WACO, Texas -- Baylor running back Richard Reese – who holds the program record for rushing yards by a freshman – has been named one of 16 semifinalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

A native of Bellville, Texas, Reese has had a historic season while leading the Bears in rushing in his collegiate debut. Reese owns 908 yards rushing in 2022 – the most for a freshman in Baylor history – with 14 TDs. He ranks second among all college football freshman in rushing yards and TDs.

Reese is poised to become the 16th player in program history to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark. He ranks tied with Bryce Petty (2013) for fourth in Baylor single-season history in touchdowns.

A 5-foot-9, 175-pound product of Bellville High School, Reese has three games with over 100 yards rushing and twice has accumulated three TDs in a single game.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding Division I offensive player who was either born in Texas, played at a Texas high school, Texas-based junior college or four-year college. The player must also exhibit the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell, including integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, community and tenacity.

Baylor (6-5, 4-4 Big 12 Conference) will wrap up its regular-season schedule on Friday, traveling to Austin to face Texas (7-4, 5-3 Big 12) at 11 a.m. on ESPN and the Baylor Sports Network from Learfield.
