WACO, Texas – Baylor football landed five players on the 2022 Preseason All-Big 12 Team, as announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Linebacker Dillon Doyle, offensive linemen Jacob Gall and Connor Galvin, defensive lineman Siaki Ika and tight end Ben Sims represent the Bears on the preseason team, as voted on by media members who cover the league.

BU’s five selections are the second-most in the conference, trailing only Kansas State’s six total members. The Bears are one of three Big 12 teams to have multiple picks on each side of the ball, with three offensive and two defensive honorees.

Doyle, a redshirt senior entering his third year at Baylor, finished second on the team with 91 tackles in 2021. The former Iowa transfer was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention last season after recording 8.5 tackles for loss for a BU defense that held opponents to just 18.3 points per game.

Gall, a sixth-year senior heading into year two as a Bear, started all 14 games at center in 2021 and was named a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native and University of Buffalo transfer earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention list and also received votes for the Big 12’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year award last season.

Galvin, a fifth-year senior out of Katy, Texas, was named the Big 12’s Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2021 after starting all 14 games at left tackle. He collected All-America honors from The Athletic and the Associated Press after anchoring a BU O-Line that ranked inside the top-10 nationally with just 18 sacks allowed last year.

Ika, a junior approaching his second year at Baylor, earned Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors in 2021 after posting 25 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. The LSU transfer set a career high in BU’s Sugar Bowl victory with five total tackles, including a half-sack.

Sims, a redshirt senior from San Antonio, produced a career year in 2021 with 31 catches for 361 yards and six touchdowns. He earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention praise last season after becoming BU’s all-time leader in touchdowns by a tight end.

Two players were unanimously chosen to the preseason team in Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughn and Texas’ Bijan Robinson, who was also voted Offensive Player of the Year. K-State’s Felix Anudike-Uzomah garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel was tabbed Newcomer of the Year.
